Star 'Stache Smash was a mini-game featured in an arcade in Little Fungitown during the events of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. However, the mini-game is mandatory for the story to progress. The Mario Bros. could also play this arcade game for free. The idea of Star 'Stache Smash is to tilt the tray with the items on it into the open holes at each side of the screen. There is only one side open at a time. Pressing A will tilt the tray to the right while pressing B will tilt the tray to the left.

Every time the player gets an item through an open hole, a certain amount of points will be awarded depending on the item. Mushrooms are worth one point, Fire Flowers are worth three points, and Stars are worth five points. Bob-ombs are also worth one point, but they also cause the other side to open and close the side they landed in. In the story, the Mario Bros. would win an Invincishroom for getting a score of two hundred or above. This would later cause Mario to gain Bean Fever after consuming the Invincishroom. The game could be played later in exchange for Hee Beans.

Trivia

  • A doll in the likeness of Geno appears in the mini-game to explain the rules.
  • If the player views the controls for the game, he or she will see that it was manufactured by WIN-tendo.
  • The music played during this mini-game is a slower remix of the classic Starman theme from Super Mario Bros.
