A Patroller is a user who is given blocking, rollbacking, and patrolling rights.

Rollbacking allows reverting edits to become easier. Patrollers can simply click the rollback button in the history page, rather than undoing the edit. This feature make fighting vandalism more effective.

Patrollers were established on April 15th, 2007 in order to counter vandalism that has been becoming more constant as the Wiki becomes more popular. They can be considered an in-between of users and Sysops and are chosen by Bureaucrats for a) activeness and b) trust. Though on March 26th, 2008, the Patroller rank was phased out because of lacking powers and redundancy with the Sysop rank. However, it was returned on January 11th, 2009. The reason for its return was that there are some users that deserve a promotion, but are not quite yet ready to be Sysops.

Although most Sysops were Patrollers at one point, a user can be promoted immediately to Sysop and never be a Patroller. The two roles are considered entirely separate as far as promotion goes, but work together to block vandals and "patrol" recent changes.

Current patrollers are listed at Special:Listusers/patroller.
