User:Another gossip-loving Toad is a Mario fan from China. His favorite game is Paper Mario, especially because conversations in the game show a variety of the English language. He also likes speedruns, including TASes.

Most Chinese people didn't think Mario deserved a name because they didn't know any other Mario games other than Super Mario Bros. Because Super Mario Bros. was commonly called "Super Mary", they call him "超级玛丽" (chāojí Mǎlì), which means "super Mary".
A few people in China who began to know the whole Marioverse began to call him "Mario", recognizing him as a character independent from any particular game. However, there are more than one transliteration of "Mario". Most fans prefer "马里奥" (Mǎli'ào), and this one is used over the Internet, from Wikipedia to forums, and even in fan-made games.
However, Nintendo in China, iQue, insists the awkward, weird translation "马力欧" (Mǎlì'ōu) that most Chinese fans dislike. I've seen this name only in Nintendo or iQue's website.
