Magma Mine is one of the seven boards in Mario Party 9. The players ride in a minecart inside a volcano. The mini-boss is a giant Spike, while the main boss which is fought at the end is a Chain Chomp.

Layout

The players start out at the bottom of the mine, in front of a circle of lava. The players ride around the circle to a large ramp leading up. About midway is the boss castle where the Spike is fought. After the battle the players keep following track which goes in different directions like right and left to eventually reach the top where the bowser gate and Chain Chomp are located. It should be noted that this board has a few different spaces that no other board has. This particular space rises the lava when landed on. If the player is the captain that made lava rise, he or she will lose half of their Mini Stars. Another known gimmick is when the players reach a spot where there are two ways to go (one spot is the circle of lava). Each player chooses which way they want to go (left or right). Once each player has decided, a rollout appears. If the arrow lands on a player who wanted to go left, the cart will go left. If it landed on a character who wanted to go right, the cart would go right. Another note is the strange bone-like creature beside the boss castle, it resembles a Bone Dragon from Yoshi's Story. Technically, the point of the board is to reach the top as fast the player can so he or she will not be the victim of the lava.

Spike Boss Battle

The players are in the volcano, spike throws spiked balls to the players, they have to point to screen an select a item to throw back the spiked ball to spike and win points, the item are a Golden Hammer (3 pts.), a Normal Hammer (1 pt.), and a stick (-1 pt.).

Chain Chomp Boss Battle

The battle takes place at the peak of mine. The players start out behind minecarts with cannons on them. The Chain Chomp appears in front of the minecarts. The players must choose the correct path to reach a minecart. Once they reach the minecart, the cannon shoots hitting the Chain Chomp thus, giving the player points, 1 if is a normal cannon and 3 if is a Golden one. If the player chooses the wrong path, the Chain Chomp hurts the player and lose 1 point.
