Coin Cache is a coin-collecting, 4-Player mini-game found in Mario Party 5.
Like in any other coin-collecting mini-game in the Mario Party series, the goal of the player is to collect the most coins within the time limit. In this specific game, the player must smash as many Brick Blocks as possible. Pretty much like in a classic Mario game, the coins don't fall out, the player just has to hit the block to obtain the coin. There are three types of blocks in this mini-game:
- Brick Block 1: This Brick Block contains nothing inside it. When smashed, it is destroyed.
- Brick Block 2: Unlike the first Brick Block, this one contains a single coin. When hit, it transforms into a Metal Block, which contains nothing inside it.
- Brick Block 3: The rarest of all the Brick Blocks, this one can be hit several times, as it contains more than just a coin inside it. When it has no more coins, it turns into a Metal Block containing nothing.
These blocks, though, are not just there for the player to hit. In a side-scroller like engine, there are a total of three rows of Brick Blocks, which move from left to right. The player's character in restricted to only move from left to right, rather than in all directions like in most other mini-games. The rows, though, stop every now and then for a few seconds, which the players can use especially to climber to higher rows of bricks.
An interesting thing in the scenery of this mini-game is that it takes place in Princess Peach's Castle. Using a graphical system similar to that of Berry Basket's tree, the Castle looks simply spectacular, being, possibly, the best incarnation, graphically, of the castle to date. Besides this, there are also dancing flowers nearby, and far-off, floating in the sky, a blue air balloon with star drawings on it. As always, Princess Peach's Castle is surrounded by its beautiful lake, with jumping Cheep Cheeps on it, and a flowing waterfall of crystalline water.
