Chat Now

The chatroom is meant to be a safe place to hang out and enjoy yourself while chatting about anything. When you first enter, you'll automatically join the mariowiki channel.

You are now ready to chat! You have some customization options:

• Text colors. Left-click on a color on the right to make it your text color, right-click on another color to make it your background color.
• Smilies. We have several smilies, including Mario-themed smilies. See the table below for a list of them all and the code to input to have them appear in your messages.
• Private chatting. Double-click on a user's name in the right-hand side to talk to him or her alone. It will appear in a separate tab on the bottom row.

Here are a few of the many commands you can use in the chat:

• /j #[roomname] – join another room by opening another tab on the top row, with #[roomname] being the name of the channel you want to join.
• /nick [nickname] – another way of changing your name
• /query [username] – a fancy way of opening a private-message tab.
• /me [blah blah] – a fancy way of referring to yourself (/me goes away results in * [Username] goes away in a purple-colored font)
• /msg NickServ OR /ns +
  • REGISTER [password] [email] – how to make sure no one can impersonate you. Everytime you change your nick, you must identify yourself ↑
  • IDENTIFY [password] – if you registered your name, this is how you enter your password
  • SET password [new password] – if you want to change your password, this is how you do it. You must identify yourself first.
  • KILL [nickname] [password] – if you fail to enter your name within the time limit, this is what you do to get your name back.
  • DROP [password] – if you want to unregister your nick, this is how you drop it. Note that any nick not used for 30 days will be auto-dropped.
• /clear – delete all text from the chat window.
• /ignore [username] – Makes the chat not display any messages from the given username. Useful if someone is spamming.
• /unignore [username] – Reverses the effect of /ignore.

Rules

There are a few restrictions we must institute to prevent any trouble.

#mariowiki

The rules work on a three strike system. If you break a rule you will be warned, if you ignore the warning you will be kicked, and if you come back and continue to break the rule you will be kicked. For chatters who have been known to break the rules, the first and even second strikes may be skipped. 1. No discrimination Please refrain from discriminating against other chatters based on their religion, race, etc., or implying that if another chatter had a specific one of these you would do as such. 2. No flooding Please refrain from flooding. Posting the same thing more than twice will result in a kick. Similarly if you post anything along the lines of lyrics or movie quotes that take up more then five lines and were not part of any real conversation(i.e. if another chatter did not remember the quote, etc) you may also be kicked or banned. Things other then posts(for example, repeatedly changing your name) may also count as flooding. 3. No flaming While a bad word or two about another chatter is unavoidable, please refrain from going into too much detail too frequently about your dislike for any other people, especially in a heated situation. Additionally, petty insults like "moron" will not be considered flames, and we ask that you please use common sense to divide these and real flames. On top of that, if another user is flaming you, please refrain from starting a flame war, as this will result in all involved users being kicked and possibly banned. 4. No trolling No trolling. Please do not say anything that is obviously for the purpose of angering or upsetting another chatter. This being something that is not usually obvious, please be careful not to appear that you may be doing it. 5. No nick abuse Please do not change your nick to appear as if you are another chatter, as it can be confusing to both the other chatters and the operators, and possibly upsetting the chatter whom you are impersonating. Furthermore, if you have an account on the wiki or the forum, please make your name on either of those obvious in your nick. 6. No bots Please do not create chatbots on #mariowiki. A script that says something upon a command like "`userbot quote" is fine(as long as it is not used to break rule 2), while a bot that automatically respond to every post is not. 7. No ban-evading If you are banned, please do not evade this ban. If you feel that you have been wrongly banned, please query an operator who is online, private message an operator on the forum, or ask an operator on their wiki talk page. Any bans evaded will be doubled. 8. No icky stuff Please refrain from in-depth sexual or gorey conversations or imagery. No one wants to hear about it. 9. No asking to be an Op You become an operator by being active and responsible, not by asking for it or being popular. Please refrain from constantly asking to be an operator. 10. No illegalities Please do not link to things that are illegal such as ROMs, mp3s, etc. If it breaks a law, we do not want it in our chatroom. 11. No mini-modding No telling the Operators how to do their job. The enforcement of the rules lies solely in their hands, and telling them how/when to kick will not be permitted. 12. No disobeying the Operators Please listen to the Operators when they tell you to do something. Failure to comply with an Operator's request(s), will result in a kick. (Unless said request conflicts with the other rules of #mariowiki, in which case, the Operator in question may be demoted.) Ops: You became an operator by being active and responsible, if you are deoped it is not a punishment, it just means that you aren't quite better than everybody else. Operators don't get an extra chance like some people have assumed(deop, kick, ban), the rules are exactly the same for them as they are for everyone else (deop and kick, ban). Do not abuse your power. Kicking or banning users who did nothing against the rules will result in your demotion and kick or ban. These rules are subject to change at any time by the #mariowiki Operators' collective decisions. Any rules that are added or changed are to be followed in the same manner that all others are. Any complaints about the rules should be brought up on the corresponding talk page or in an Operator's query. Failure to abide by these rules will result in punishment. #mwikitalk

#mwikitalk is an on-topic channel, exclusively for discussing matters about the wiki itself. If you continue to go off-topic, you will receive a kick, and possibly a ban. No spamming. (Stupid Pointless and Annoying Message. Anything that fits this bill, be it random gibberish or sheer off-topicness, as well as things that do not contribute to the channel itself, will be considered as spam, and its motive of a kick and/or ban. No cursing. Not everyone wants to hear a conversation full of swear words, so please, abstain of using them, as this is motive of a kick and/or ban. The only allowed swears are hell, damn, crap. No flooding: If you type 5 or more lines consecutively that consist of 4 or less words each, you will receive a kick and/or ban. No flaming. This means that you can not insult other users. This also includes being mean to the users who are new. This is motive for a kick and/or ban. Nick changes. It is okay to change your nick to whatever you want, as long as it is appropriate and it is clear that you are really you. (Example: Try to have your user name in the nick, or a well-known nickname). Absolutely no sexual-related conversations. We have many children here, so please, do not even mention or reference anything sexually-oriented. This is grounds for a kick and/or ban. No discrimination. We are a multicultural wiki, with users from many countries, races, religions, and even political thoughts. So please, abstain of making any comment or action that may be discriminatory towards someone. This is motive for a kick and/or ban. No advertising. Advertising is okay as long as it is something related to the MarioWiki. Any other ad will be considered spam. Bans If you receive 3 kicks, you will receive a ban. The ban duration will change depending on the situation and seriousness of the offense, but here is the main guideline: First ban: 1 hour Second ban: 1 day Third ban: 3 days Fourth ban: 1 week Fifth ban: 1 month Sixth ban: Eternity Ban evading: Evading a ban, will result in a doubled ban. Ops #mwikitalk ops are some of the administrators of this site. No Op Abusing: If you see anyone abusing of their op privileges, please contact another op by querying him/her, and tell him/her about this. Op abusing may lead to a demotion from their Op status.

Channel Operators (identified by the @ next to their name on the wiki's applet) are in place to kick or ban unruly users. Trusted users will be allowed operator status.
