This is the only RPG without a bestiary. Could someone take care of that? I'd do it, but I'm not autoconfirmed yet. :I agree, though I disagree with the statement that mini-bosses have little bearing to the plot (Bowser joins the party after each fight, all the mini-boss battles in Castle Bleck result in the loss of a character, etc.). You'll notice that the quality of articles related to SPM are surprisingly poor, which is why there isn't a separate category for mini-bosses.

::I did mention exceptions to the plot rule, but for many of them, there is not much plot, such as Mega Koopa, Big Blooper, Underchomp, the optional second fight with Francis, and things like that. Doc von Schmeltwick 20:26, 6 July 2017 (CT)
Most of the bosses are fought at the end of chapters, with I think O'Chunks being the exception. Even so, O'Chucks is fought as the boss of Chapter 8-1. I don't think there's a clear defining factor between boss and mini-boss in this game. Here's all the bosses in order for me to better explain what I mean:
*O'Chunks - Mid-boss of Chapter 1-3, 5-2, & 5-4, Boss of Chapter 8-1
*Fracktail - Boss of Chapter 1-4
*Mimi - Boss of Chapter 2-4, 6-2, & 8-2
*Bowser - Boss of Chapter 3-1
*Big Blooper - Boss of Chapter 3-2
*Dimentio - Boss of Chapter 3-3 & 8-3
*Francis - Boss of Chapter 3-4, optional mid-boss of Chapter 8-2
*Mr. L & Brobot - Bosses of Chapter 4-4
*King Croacus - Boss of Chapter 5-4
*Brobot L-Type - Boss of Chapter 6-1 Redux
*Underchomp - Boss of 7-2
*Bonechill - Boss of Chapter 7-4
*Count Bleck and Super Dimentio - Bosses of Chapter 8-4
Every boss, even O'Chucks, is fought at the end of a level at least once.I'd be fine with classifying them all as simply "bosses", because that's all this game seems to have in terms of major enemies. If we need to classify any of these as mini-bosses, the only ones that "fit" would be O'Chunks and Francis. 22:05, 6 July 2017 (EDT)
:In regard to minibosses, I think we should just leave SPM alone. The game simply does not draw a clear line between "boss" and "miniboss". The bosses are presented relatively equally and all get unique themes (aside from Big Blooper and Shadoo), unlike the rest of the Paper Mario games where major bosses get unique themes while the mid-bosses all share a general "miniboss" theme. 22:20, 6 July 2017 (EDT)
::Regardless of where they are fought within levels, it is there placement within chapters that matters, as that is the analogue to worlds in this game. Boom Boom is fought at the end of castle levels in SMB3 and NSMBU, but he's still a miniboss. Same goes for O'Chunks, Big Blooper, and the rest. And 7feet, the previous Paper Mario games did not make any distinction either, Boss themes mean nothing. Doc von Schmeltwick 22:29, 6 July 2017 (CT)
:::No. No, no, no. It does not work like that. We cannot just consider everything not fought at the end of a chapter or world a miniboss. That is exactly why the category had to be hosed down to begin with. And claiming that "boss themes mean nothing" is nonsense. They're not everything, but of course they mean something. They're part of the presentation. The mid-bosses share a theme because they're "less important" than the chapter bosses. Not that that's the single defining criterion for what makes a miniboss, but the point is if a game does not actually draw a fine line between "boss" and "miniboss", then there is absolutely no good reason to be forcing the category on it. 00:13, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
::::If we're going down that route, I'd like to point out that virtually no game has actually ever referred to a miniboss as a miniboss by the word itself, or anything other than implication, an implication shared with the SPM minibosses. They are presented in an identical manner, ie a lesser boss. Doc von Schmeltwick 0:05, 7 July 2017 (CT)
:::::The statement is technically incorrect: in-game data of Paper Mario: Color Splash, such as the unit data table here, refer to zako boss and boss, the latter are of course the Koopalings and Bowser, with the former being the other bosses. The distinction is not as arbitrary as it may sound. Still, I don't have a dump of Super Paper Mario, so I don't know how developers classify the bosses in the game.--Mister Wu (talk) 05:51, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
::::::Doc von Schmeltwick noted that no boss is ever referred to as mid-boss or mini-boss in any game. I would like to note the page Superboss is about to be deleted, partially for the fact that superboss is a fan term. Could the same scenario apply here?
:::::: 09:14, 7 July 2017 (EDT)
:::::::At the moment, I only have information on Paper Mario: Color Splash and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, both games that do not feature Superbosses, so I cannot say anything direct on the matter of Superbosses. What is said here applies exclusively to the matter of mini-bosses and bosses, on which data confirm that developers indeed make such distinction.--Mister Wu (talk) 20:29, 7 July 2017 (EDT)

Regarding the khinsider soundtrack
this, specifically.
does anyone have any idea where this upload came from? i can find no mention of it online anywhere. i'm particularly curious about this because the khinsider tracks are much cleaner than direct rips from the game, and are even at double the sample rate! the khinsider tracks are 44.1khz, but the SPM game files only have them at 22.05khz (besides a few outliers which are 32khz). there are even unused jingles! as far as i can tell, there is a similar soundtrack upload for TTYD on the site, same increased music quality and all. it's really strange - if someone had found all the samples and recreated the tracks from scratch, you'd think there would be a thread about it on some forum somewhere, or they'd be on Church of Kondo, or anything...
i only have a few small leads: it was reuploaded to Sitting on Clouds, and that page has an Amazon link, but it is both dead and the URL suggests it's for a completely different game anyway. the khinsider page claims the soundtrack release is from 2013, so maybe the Mr. L track was lifted from the Year of Luigi CD release that happened that year. the cover image appears to be based on the JP/EU box art - this has a small page curl graphic overlapping the logo, but there are a lot of official Nintendo promotional images of differing sizes floating around that it could be based on (likely this one, which appears to be official). i did a search on TinEye but none of the matches were this specific square Original Sound Version image, so unfortunately i haven't been able to determine when it first appeared on the internet. Google gets a lot closer but none of the images seem to be dated at first and they definitely don't let you sort by date, either, which is a little frustrating.
as for where the files themselves come from, i have a few ideas, but nothing concrete. i had initially thought they might be from the Wii U eShop version, but i looked up some footage and the music matched the Wii ingame files. the disc I've owned since childhood is a North American Rev. 2 copy, so maybe other regions got higher quality music files? there's plenty of room on the disc, considering the extracted files for SPM come out to under 500 megabytes.
if anyone has any more information than i do, please reply! i'm really curious about all this - it's a very interesting mystery. MANGOM1LK (talk) 20:14, May 4, 2022 (EDT)
