Moving to Wikia

I hope you have other reasons for joining this wiki other than trying (and failing) to persuade us to move our wiki to a sub-site just to put it in your group of wikis. Wa _T^C_@^Y 17:23, 12 February 2007 (EST)

I have joined this wiki to contribute to the content. However, there is a large community at Wikia and there is lots of technology there (spam prevention etc.). There is database download, RSS feeds, Wikia, inc. has passed the open company test, there are detailed statistics and even mailing lists. Wikia are planning to upgrade the MediaWiki software every two weeks so they will have the very latest technology. It is easy to move to Wikia as described at wikia:Moving your wiki to Wikia. Even the user table can be moved over and merged.

I don't understand what you meant with your edit summary [1], 'requests do not involve hosting on another site. I have found MediaWiki to be much better than Wikia.'. MediaWiki is the software and Wikia is a host.

Also, a freenode user (SladePT) [2] has told me that they have an interest in creating a Portuguese version at http://pt.mariowiki.wikia.com as this is possible at Wikia.

1) From what I've seen at Wikia, it looks ok, but not as good as MediaWiki. Also, the trouble center is for things on the wiki, not moving the wiki itself.

I suggest you contact the creator of the wiki. He'll give you the final say, but don't expect anything optimistic. Wa _T^C_@^Y 17:54, 12 February 2007 (EST)
