Template:Rank

From the Super Mario Wiki, the Mario encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to search

This template creates a visual indicator that helps compare a subject's progress between two consecutive rankings. It has one unnamed parameter where you can enter the values "up", "down", "steady", or "?". The indicator is automatically aligned to the right. If the value "legend" is entered in the template's parameter instead of the ones previously listed, the template generates a guide describing each indicator, which you may place at the beginning of a page. (In this case, a parameter called "float" exists which can be set to "yes" to adapt the guide to the reader's screen ratio.)

Unrelated to {{rank bonus}} and {{rank course}}.

Example

One or more rankings shown on this page use the following symbols:
Indicates that a subject went up compared to the previous ranking.
Indicates that a subject went down compared to the previous ranking.
Indicates that a subject maintained position compared to the previous ranking.
? Indicates either that the subject's position in the previous ranking is unclear, or that it is unknown whether the subject was included in that ranking.

If no symbol is shown despite the existence of a previous ranking, the subject was either absent from or ineligible for that ranking.

A contest happens in the Mushroom Kingdom. The first round of the contest concludes with the following results:

Ranking 1
1st Mario
2nd Bowser
3rd Wario
4th Peach
5th Donkey Kong
6th Luigi
7th Toad

Then, at the end of the second round, Toad and Luigi take the top 3 places in a huge upset and the standings shift around. This template can be used to handily communicate which characters moved up, moved down, or stayed the same throughout the contest, without forcing readers to look at the previous ranking.

Ranking 2
1st Mario
2nd Toad
3rd Luigi
4th Peach
5th Bowser
6th Donkey Kong
7th Goomba
8th Wario
