Obscure Pocket Chomp Mechanic?[edit]

After watching a few playthroughs of Partners in Time and playing the game myself, I've noticed that the Pocket Chomp attack can be a bit inconsistent with how long it takes for the Chomp to bite Mario or Luigi. Sometimes, you can seemingly get the timing right for every hit and the Chomp still bites you after only around 10 jumps. Other times, I've been able to successfully continue the attack for what feels like 5 minutes straight before the Chomp gets me.

The characters' speed after jumping off of the enemy seems to have something to do with this. Sometimes the character will jump offscreen without ever touching the ground and other times the character will immediately land after jumping. I think what might be happening here is that the game measures how accurately timed your button presses are and accordingly gives the character more or less speed after each jump. When I was testing the attack myself, I seemed to be able to perform the attack for longer and longer amounts of time as I got better at the button timing.

Does anyone else know anything about this? I can't find anything about this mechanic online anywhere. Maybe someone knowledgeable about this game's programming could confirm this? I think it would be worthwhile information to include in the article. TyGuy24 (talk) 02:27, June 16, 2026 (UTC)
