Is the mask of the Singing Blusterwing and the Great Harmoneel the same?[edit]
So, the Mind-Bender Masks are mentioned for the first (and only) time by Poppy Kong in the Groove Layer. In the English and French localizations, Poppy Kong also states that the Mind-Bender Mask used to control the Great Harmoneel is similar to the mask used to control the Sinister Blusterwing. In the French localization in particular, it is explicitly said that the technology is the same. Even so, the dialogue seems to imply that they are two different objects with a similar function, which partly makes sense since the Sinister Blusterwing is the result of the Singing Blusterwing being transformed by the mask, in addition to being mind-controlled, whereas the Great Harmoneel is only mind-controlled and does not change its form or name. However, in the Italian localization, it is specifically stated that both masks are Mind-Bender Masks. So I'm wondering: are they actually the same thing or not? Is this discrepancy present only in the Italian localization? In the original Japanese version, are the two masks meant to be the same object, or are they simply similar devices? --Alternis (talk) 20:48, June 14, 2026 (UTC)
- To make things clearer, I'll include the dialogue from all three localizations:
- English: "Ah, the Mind-Bender Masks. VoidCo developed brainwashing devices—it's true. They make the wearer's mind totally open to manipulation. Even the largest creature can't resist. Did you notice the mask attached to the Blusterwing in the Tempest Layer? That was a similar brainwashing device."
(Ah, the Mind-Bender Masks... VoidCo really did develop a brainwashing device. Once a victim is fitted with one of these masks, their mind becomes a plaything in the hands of the Void Company. In fact, the one worn by the Blusterwing in the Tempest Layer was based on the same technology.)
(Ah, it was behaving that way because of the Mind-Bender Mask, a mind-control device developed by VoidCo. Anyone who wears one can be manipulated, even a creature of enormous size. Did you notice the mask worn by the Blusterwing in the Tempest Layer? That was one of those devices.)--Alternis (talk) 20:57, June 14, 2026 (UTC)
