I emailed Giselle Fernandez in 2024 and heard back from them at the time.[edit]
I personally emailed Giselle Fernandez back in January 2024. This is what I sent them:
1. How in the world did you become the voice of Princess Daisy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder? Were you familiar with her before voicing her? And what was voicing her like for you? Additionally, has Deanna Mustard (Daisy's past voice actor) ever praised your vocal take on the orange-wearing princess from Nintendo's flagship Super Mario franchise, or is Deanna herself still a reclusive woman who rarely if ever interacts with anyone and is unwilling to publicly interact with Mario fans? Additionally, are you surprised that Nintendo for some reason has chosen to replace Deanna, whose Daisy voice has become synonymous with the character, with you of all people?
2. Do you intend on voicing Princess Daisy again if she appears in future Mario games, or will your continued involvement in voice acting for English-language dubs of Asian/Japanese video games—as well as foreign-language TV shows/movies on streaming services—prevent you from continuously voicing Daisy?
3. Have you ever lended [sic] your voice to a character who identifies as non-binary (like you yourself do), or even one who identifies as a transgender man? Or have you exclusively voiced cisgender women for some reason? Additionally, is it common for LGBTQ dubbing voice actors in the LA English-language dubbing industry to lend their voices to cishet characters?
4. Do you look forward to becoming one of those highly prestigious pre-lay voice actors, and lending your voice to characters in English-language cartoons produced domestically in the United States (e.g. people who voice characters in cartoons produced by Cartoon Network Studios/Warner Bros. Animation, Disney Television Animation, Nickelodeon Animation Studio, 20th Television Animation etc.)? Or are you comfortable with where you currently are?
5. Who would you say is your favorite voice actor?
6. Aside from Princess Daisy and some Fire Emblem characters, have you ever voiced any other Nintendo characters?
7. If Princess Daisy ever returns in a future Super Smash Bros. game after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, do you want to record new voice clips for her specifically for Smash? Additionally, do you think Daisy should get any changes to her Smash Bros. moveset to further distinguish her from Princess Peach?
8. Given that you provided the English voice for Aloy from Sony Interactive Entertainment's Horizon series in Genshin Impact in lieu of the character's usual English voice actor Ashly Burch, and also replaced Deanna Mustard as the voice of Princess Daisy, I have one more question that's nowhere near as serious as all of the previous ones: Are you just destined to replace voice actors for female redhead video game characters? Or are you destined to voice redheads in [sic]
With that being said, I do think that you did a pretty decent job so far with Princess Daisy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder in my opinion, (and that's all while taking into account the fact that I'm kinda shocked that Nintendo inexplicably chose to replace her previous voice actor with you! [sic] in my opinion! I didn't even know it was definitively you who voiced Daisy in that game until you came out and announced it over on X!

And this was their response:
Hi there!
Thanks so much! That's a lot of questions, oh my! I'll try and answer as best I can.
Yes, I was familiar with Princess Daisy prior to being cast. No, I do not know Deanna Mustard or any of the other voice actors for Daisy, but they all seem like lovely people! Voice acting is often a very isolated career, so VAs don't get to run into each other very often.
As of this moment, I am the voice of Princess Daisy for the SMB Wonder game, and that's all. If I get asked to voice her again for another game, I likely will-- but as of this moment, I don't have any more information than most folks on that.
I have voiced many LGBT+ characters! I've voiced non-binary characters (Fig Cookie from Cookie Run: Kingdom, for example) and male characters (Milio from League of Legends, Enzo from Hello Neighbour, etc) as well as female ones. Generally gender and sexuality only matter for casting if it's specific to the character's arc. To be frank, most characters I voice are children and I don't think of them as having a sexuality one way or another. I have never (nor will I ever, as long as I can help it) voice a trans male character, because I could not authentically portray that.
My favourite voice actor-- of course, I think most VAs might answer this way-- was the iconic Mel Blanc. He really did set the entire stage for this industry and what animation can be. Ed Wynn is another hero of mine, as well, a true master in comedy.
As for the final question-- well, I'm just surprised I'm in the ginger category now! Prior to this, a lot of characters I'd voiced were in the purple/pink-hair category, so it's a fun switch-up, haha!
Everything is reproduced verbatim. I do wonder if any of this information might come in handy for this article. In particular, Fernandez stated that they were already familiar with Daisy prior to being cast as her voice actor, but personally doesn't know any of Daisy's prior VAs (including Deanna Mustard). Fernandez themself also stated that they were only Daisy's VA for the time being, but indicated that they would likely continue voicing her as long as they'd get asked to do so (presumably by Nintendo)—something which seems to still be the case in Super Mario Party Jamboree and maybe even the upcoming Mario Kart World. Ports, remasters, remakes and re-releases of pre-Wonder games with Princess Daisy in them obviously won't feature Fernandez's voice, however. Zakawer2 (talk) 06:54, April 17, 2025 (EDT)
