The '''Melty Molten Galaxy''' is a [[galaxy]] in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', and the last major galaxy to be unlocked in a dome. It is quite a large galaxy, made completely of lava and rock. It is situated between two stars, a red one and a light purple one.  There are many [[Launch Star]]s here, allowing Mario to traverse the massive planet. There are also some small planetoids around it.

This area is a large disk of lava connected to the main planet. It contains a small volcano called [[Mt. Molten]] with two large platforms on either side of it. Both have various obstacles and enemies. Small steel platforms make a path between the two platforms. The volcano has a switch inside that makes the lava rise and release [[Star Bit]]s.

The Volcano is a volcanic area found in the Melty Molten Galaxy. There is a [[Launch Star]] above it, but if [[Mario]] drops into the volcano, there is a ground-pound switch on a rock floor at the bottom, which causes star bits to appear. However, the volcano will erupt fifteen seconds after Mario activates the switch, so he will have to use a [[Sling Star]] at the bottom to get out. In the [[Purple Coin]] mission ([[Melty Molten Galaxy#Red Hot Purple Coins|Red Hot Purple Coins]]), there are purple coins down the sides of and inside of the Volcano Area. One coin in this mission is placed on top of a small lava ring inside the volcano, requiring two health slices to reach it, unless the player uses a good timed [[spin]] or a Long Jump.

These are two hardening planets made of magma and cooled lava. They are home to several [[Li'l Cinder]]s. Beside them lies a crashed saucer that serves as a starting platform. Strangely, these planets have their own gravity even though they are embedded in the main planet's surface.

===Formation Planets===

The Formation Planets are a large rock formation surrounded by other large rock formations that are intertwined. The spire is also home to many Burn Bits. On top of the spire, a [[Power Star]] is incased in a large ice crystal that Mario must get to. When Mario steps on the spire, it begins to sink and now he must run up the spire or be engulfed by the lava. There is a shortcut at the beginning of the spire that leads Mario halfway up and gets him a [[1-Up Mushroom]].

This is a small network of cooled lava platforms that is home to several [[Lava Bubble (blue)|Lava Bubble]]s. Mario must find five [[Star Chip|Yellow Star Chips]] to continue.

This area is made up of many lava panels, four stone panels, and a humoungus tunnel of lava. The tunnel has many holes in it that Mario can fall through to his death. Mario must roll on the [[Rolling Ball]] to the finish line so he could receive the Power Star. There is a shortcut Mario can take to avoid the moving lava platforms: he can jump to the stone platform with a [[1-Up Mushroom]]. Jumping on this platform will cause the ball to slow down, so the player must roll the ball near the back edge of the platform, build up momentum, and jump. It saves the time of going over the moving lava platforms.

This is a small area with many steel platforms and sling stars. Mario must use the [[Sling Star]]s to avoid falling into the lava and dodge the lava spouts. At the end of this area, there is [[Lumalee]] that Mario could decide to buy either a [[1-Up Mushroom]] or a [[Life Mushroom]] for the battle against [[Fiery Dino Piranha]].

This planet is the home to [[Fiery Dino Piranha]]. Mario first arrives to the planet as he lands on Fiery Dino Piranha egg and cracks it, which made a slight crack on the egg. After Mario pulling the tail, the Fiery Dino Piranha breaks out of it's egg and tries to attack Mario. Mario is rewarded with a Power Star after he defeats Fiery Dino Piranha.

This is a small rock planet with a sea of lava around it, created by feeding a [[Hungry Luma]]. The lava has a tide that the low tide reveal a network of paths, which Mario could advance through, and lava would cover up the path when it is a high tide. Mario must scuttle across the planet, avoiding high tides and Burn Bits to retrieve five [[Silver Star]]s and get the Power Star.

==Missions==

[[Mario]] starts out in the fire cauldron area, which he has to cross completely and get to the Launch Star at the top of the volcano. Mario can let himself fall into the volcano at this point, where he can get many [[Star Bit]]s. As Mario leaves the volcano, it erupts. On little sphere capsules in the sky over the lava planet Mario meets a [[Hungry Luma]]. He has to use [[Pull Star]]s to get around miniature suns on his way through the sky. He then returns to the planet and has to search [[Star Chip]]s to get to the Lava Spire, a mountain which begins to sink. Mario then must get to the top of the mountain quickly and smash the [[Crystal (Super Mario Galaxy)|Crystal]] to gain the [[Power Star]].

===Through the Meteor Storm===

In this mission, [[Meteor]]s are constantly falling from the sky. [[Mario]] must constantly avoid them or they will burn Mario. Near the end of the mission, a part similar to [[Rolling Green Galaxy]] must be completed where Mario must ride a [[Star Ball]] to the end of a lava covered course without falling through the holes in the tunnel. Once Mario is at the end of the course, the [[Star Ball]] will break, giving Mario the [[Power Star]].

In this level, [[Mario]] must battle a [[Fiery Dino Piranha|fiery version]] of the first boss, [[Dino Piranha]]. The fiery version is faster, and Mario is only able to hit its tail when it is not on fire, which gets increasingly difficult because the flame goes out quicker and makes a flaming trail after a couple of hits.

===Lava Spire Daredevil Run (Daredevil Comet)===

This is the Daredevil comet mission for Melty Molten Galaxy. Unlike most though, Mario does not fight a boss in this mission but must complete the entire "The Sinking Lava Spire" mission with only one bar of health. The Mission is frequently considered as one of the hardest, but can be passed by being extra careful and taking one's time (except on the sinking spire).

[[Mario]] must feed a [[Hungry Luma]] eighty [[Star Bit]]s to create a new planet where there are five [[Silver Stars]] he must collect. The only sections of land on the planet are constantly being submerged by searing lava, and the player must therefore make sure to stay in the higher areas until the lava level lowers and it's safe to walk to the next part. The white areas are always safe. Once Mario has gotten all five Silver Stars, the resulting [[Power Star]] will appear on a lower area of the ground, so Mario must wait until it is safe to grab the Star.

*The Melty Molten Galaxy has the distinction of being the only galaxy in the game that contains a [[Daredevil Comet]] level where a boss is not fought, despite the fact that this galaxy features [[Fiery Dino Piranha]] as a boss. This is also the only Daredevil Comet where the entire level needs to be completed.

*A galaxy in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]'' called the [[Melty Monster Galaxy]] greatly resembles this galaxy.

*The Small Glass and Lava Planets in this galaxy are extremely similar in appearance to the [[Space Junk Galaxy#Orb Planets|Orb Planets]] from the [[Space Junk Galaxy]], only slightly smaller.

*Along with [[Dusty Dune Galaxy]], this is the only galaxy to play the hurry theme in a non-comet mission. Also, the hurry theme is still played when landed on the Lava Spire during the Daredevil Comet mission, which has the same theme.

*This is the only galaxy to have [[Star Chips]] in all three missions and the comet mission.

*The saucers found in Melty Molten Galaxy are a reference to the beta of the game. [[Topmaniac]] was originally planned to be fought in this galaxy, but the idea was eventually scrapped.
