Ghostly Grove is the twenty-third level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. It is also the first area of Gloomy Gulch. This level is set in an eerie forest and marks first appearance of the ropes, which appear throughout. Diddy and Dixie Kong need to time their jumps in order to utilize the ropes to their advantage. They cannot hang onto them long, as the ropes might disappear before they get off, thus making them fall.
Ghostly Grove is the twenty-third level of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2, a similar game for the Game Boy system. It is also the first area of Gloomy Gulch.

At the beginning of the level, the Kongs can find a Kloak, above themselves that throws items to them. Klomps stomp along the long and rather flat pathway ahead. A rope is on the way down the pathway, and a DK Barrel wobbles next to it. A second rope is above a prickly Spiny found in a small alcove. The rope can be used to reach a higher area of land. There is a small alcove in the ground near here with a Klampon and a Spiny in it. The letter K floats above the dangerous foes. A Klobber also waits in its barrel at the edge of a cliff just ahead. An abyss is next to the Kremling enemy.

A rope floats above it that must be used to cross, and a Banana Coin is also in the gap. On the other side of the gap, a trio of Klampon patrol the area. A wide abyss is after them with a pair of ropes above it, and a Flitter also flies in the gap. If the Kongs cross this and reach land, they can find another Klobber and two mighty Krunchas on raised piece of land. A flat pathway with a Spiny walking along it is ahead at a slightly lower elevation with a rope appearing and disappearing above it. It can be climbed to reach the letter O. After passing a small gap, the heroes approach a Klobber on a platform. Another abyss follows it, but it can only be crossed with the help of a rope. Luckily, one of these ghostly objects is present in the gap, although a Zinger is near it. A barrel and a lone Klobber can be found immediately after the pit. They are located just before a pair of Krunches, who are both found on pieces of land at different elevations. In a higher area of land ahead, another Klobber can be found. The Star Barrel is nearby immediately after a Spiny in a small alcove.
This level is set in an eerie forest, and marks first appearance of the Ghost Ropes. The Kongs will need to time their jumps in order to utilize the Ghost Ropes to their advantage. But, they need to move fast on them, as the ropes might disappear before they get off, thus making them fall. Kabooms also make their debut in this level. Other enemies located in the grove include Klomps, Kloaks, Klampons, Klobbers, Krunchas, Zingers, Flitters and Spinies.

Ahead, the Kongs can find a wobbling DK Barrel in front of a Kloak, who throws Spinies at them. After tossing the enemy, the Kloak leaves, allowing the Kongs to safely progress to an abyss near its previous spot. A rope must be used to cross. A platform with a Kaboom on it is located after this abyss. Another gap is immediately after the foe, and it is filled with ropes, bananas, and a lone Zinger. Once it is crossed, the heroes can reach a large area of land with a Klobber and a Kaboom on it. They hide in barrels in front of a raised piece of ground. A Treasure Chest containing the letter N is here. After crossing a small gap that follows the two Kremling enemies, the heroes find themselves on a large area of land with two Klampons on it. A pair of ropes are in the air above the Klaptrap-like foes, but they do not appear visible for more than a few seconds. They can be used to reach a Bonus Barrel. A wide abyss can be found farther ahead. Two ropes placed in it can assist the duo in crossing. A Zinger stands in their way as they travel over the pit, which is followed by a flat piece of land with two Kabooms on it. A DK Barrel is also here.

From the start of the level, the Kongs must travel east across the mystical forest. They'll have to climb up a Ghost Rope to reach a high ledge, and then continue on, avoiding enemies. After beating a Klobber, they need to use another Ghost Rope to cross a large abyss. Then, they will defeat a few Klampons and soon cling onto more Ghost Ropes and cross an even bigger gap. When back on land, they must beat more enemies, including the mighty Krunchas, who can not be defeated with just a simple jump. Later, they will have to cross another abyss and reach a higher ledge with the aid of a Ghost Rope. From there, the monkeys must avoid a bunch of other enemies, including Spinies, Klobbers, and Krunchas. Eventually, they will spy the Star Barrel, which they must hit to mark the mid-way point.

Halfway through the level now, the heroes must dodge a Kloak and cross yet another abyss with the help of a single Ghost Rope. They get back on a large platform, where there is a Klobber, who is hiding in a dangerous TNT Barrel. Once the Kongs carefully pass him, they must cross a really big gap with the help of four Ghost Ropes. When they jump to each rope and land on the other side of the gap, they should avoid two Klobbers, one being in an explosive TNT Barrel. After that, the heroes need to jump over a small gap and continue through the forest. They will come up to another huge abyss, and several Ghost Ropes must be used to cross it. Quickly, before the ropes disappear, the monkeys must climb across and then dodge two Klobbers, who are both hiding in TNT Barrels. After they are spotted, the group needs to climb up a couple of Ghost Ropes and get up a higher ledge again. Here, they should watch out out for two Klampons and two Spinies. Soon, they must bounce to several Ghost Ropes and cross a very large abyss. Once they are at the last rope there, they need to avoid the one Zinger above them and get on land again. Not long after they get on, though, the heroes must cling onto some more Ghost Ropes to get over another big abyss. Luckily, however, the Ending Pad is at the other end of this abyss, so once they hop to each of the ropes and get back to land, they'll be able to end the level.

Another abyss with more ropes in it follows the Kabooms. The heroes must climb upwards using the ropes to reach a higher platform located immediately after a stationary Zinger. Two Klampons are here that march along some stair-like piece of land. Spinies can be found soon after them under a formation of bananas. The bananas form a circle, which has the invisible letter G within it. Another large pit is ahead, but it can be crossed with the help from a trio of ropes. A Zinger is after each of the ghostly beings. A small platform is present at the opposite side of the gap. Here, a Kloak can be found floating over another abyss. After it hurls a single barrel at the Kongs, it floats away. Five ropes are located in the large gap that this Kloak is found above. They can aid the heroes in crossing the gap. If the two friends manage to cross, they can find the End of Level Target on a solid piece of land. If they land on it, the level is completed. If they jump on the target from the final rope in the level, they win a prize.

When they begin the level, the heroes must move east and cling onto a Ghost Rope. From there, they need to grab onto the following rope and reach land again. They should continue east then, where they'll have to defeat a few enemies. A while later, they will find a Ghost Rope with the letter K above it, and then have to keep going down the path, where they will find a large abyss. Using the Ghost Ropes, they must climb across it and get to the other end. Here, they need to dodge more enemies, even a Krunch, and cross a small gap. After that, the monkeys must jump up some ledges and watch out form Klampons. Eventually, they will find another abyss, and have to use the helpful Ghost Ropes to cross it. They must be careful, though, as there are a few Zingers in the way as they climb over. Once on the other side, the Kongs should keep going east and dodge more foes. Soon, they will find a Zinger and another abyss. They must jump over the enemy and grab onto the Ghost Ropes above the abyss. When they get to the other side of the gap, they will find the Star Barrel.

Enemies
From here, the heroes must cross a tiny gap, and move on eastward again. After defeating several villains in their path, the Kongs need to cross another abyss with the Ghost Ropes above it. Here, they will find the letter N, and soon get on the other end of the gap. Here, they must avoid a few more enemies and jump over a Zinger to grab onto another Ghost Rope. Once they are on the other side of this abyss, they need to climb up some ledges and watch out for Klampons. They'll get to another abyss then, and use a few more Ghost Ropes to cross it. After that, the Kongs must simply walk down the path and grab the letter G. The group will then meet another abyss. As usual, they have to climb across each of the Ghost Ropes. Soon, they will get on a big platform, with a Klampon on it. They should beat the foe, and then jump across a small gap. They will find another gap after that, and there is large abyss after it. Again, when they cross this abyss, with the help of the Ghost Ropes, they will reach a platform with a Klampon on it, and then have to get over yet another gap, but with only a single Ghost Rope. Once every abyss is finally crossed, the monkeys will find a spring, and it will take them out of the level.

Before the Star Barrel, the heroes will see two Krunchas standing near each other. There should be a banana on the wall next to the one on the left. If they pick up the barrel from a nearby Klobber, they can break open this wall, and be taken to the Bonus Level. Here, the Kongs must throw a treasure chest at a red Zinger several times. At some point, the chest will break, and the monkeys can claim the Kremkoin that comes out of it.

KONG Letters
*K: Near the start of the level, the letter K is hovering over a small gap with a Klampon and a Spiny.
*O: Shortly after passing the first pair of Krunchas, the Kongs can find a rope and the letter O floating above the Spiny. The Kongs can obtain the letter O by either jumping from the rope or by using team up.
*N: Sometime after passing the Star Barrel, the Kongs encounter both a Klobber and a Kaboom next to each other. The letter N is hidden inside a chest above them, and the Kongs can reveal the letter by attack either enemy with the chest.
*G: Late into the level, the Kongs can find a group of bananas arranged in a circular shape. By using team up, they can obtain the invisible letter G in the center.

Key items
Near the end of the level, the monkeys will see two Ghost Ropes appearing and disappearing at a very fast speed. With Dixie Kong, the heroes must climb up these ropes. If the ropes disappear when they are on, Dixie can just flutter in the air and wait for them to reappear, instead of falling. Soon, the Kongs should be able to enter the Bonus Barrel. In it's Bonus Level, they must cross a huge abyss, using the Ghost Ropes. When they get to the other side of the gap, they'll find the Kremkoin.

*Cranky's Video Game Hero: Just after the letter O, the Kongs must jump into the following pit but move left to land into a barely visible Auto-Fire Barrel, which blasts them to the Video Game Hero Coin and an upward-facing Auto-Fire Barrel that blasts them back on ground. This barrel can be reached by Dixie using her Helicopter Spin or if Diddy executes a long roll jump.
*Golden feather (Game Boy Advance version only): Floating in the small pit right before the two Ghost Ropes leading to the second Bonus Area. The Kongs must jump into the center of the pit, where they are immediately caught by a hook. They automatically obtain the golden feather, which is floating directly beneath.
*Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only): At the very start, the Kongs are located beneath a Kloak, who is hovering over them. They can obtain the photograph by defeating the Kloak. This puts a photograph of Kloak into the fifth page of the Scrapbook.

Ghostly Grove has two Bonus Levels, listed by their type:
Around the middle of the level, the heroes will spy a Ghost Rope that they can climb up to reach the letter O. From there, Dixie Kong should be in the lead of the two monkeys, and flutter down through the small gap nearby, going to the left. Soon, she will land in a barrel, and it will shoot her to the DK Coin.
*Find the Token!: When the Kongs encounter the second pair of Krunchas, they must pick up a Barrel and throw it at a wall just after them, right next to a single banana. This opens the entrance to the Bonus Area. Here, the Kongs have 20 seconds to throw a Chest at a red Zinger five times, causing it to finally break and reveal the Kremkoin inside.
*Find the Token!: Some time after the Star Barrel, the Kongs can find two Klampons, with two ropes above them. Both ropes share a pattern of simultaneously vanishing then reappearing (taking noticeably less time than the other ropes throughout the level to do so), meaning that the Kongs should quickly jump from both of them and into the Bonus Barrel above. The Bonus Area's objective is for the Kongs to jump between four ropes (with two bananas located to the right of each rope) to cross an abyss and collect the Kremkoin from a platform on the right. They only have ten seconds to accomplish this. The Kongs lose at the Bonus Area if they fall into the pit.

Golden Feather (GBA Only)
Right before the Kongs find the two Ghost Ropes leading to the second Bonus Level, they will jump across a small abyss. Instead of going over it through, they should jump through the center. They will land on a hidden hook, and also grab the Golden Feather.

At the beginning of the level, the heroes will see a Kloak hovering above them. Once the enemy leaves, they should use their Team-up move and throw a monkey onto the area above them. There, they will find a photograph, which will help fill up the Kongs' scrapbook.

Bonus Level(s)
A while after the Star Barrel, the monkeys will have to climb up a few ledges with Klampons lurking about. Soon, they will get to an abyss, where they will see a Zinger in between some Ghost Ropes, flying up and down. They should also notice a trail of bananas going downwards into the abyss. They must follow the trail, and land into the hidden Bonus Barrel. Once they are in the Bonus Level, they need to jump over another Zinger and begin climbing across a large abyss, with the help of Ghost Ropes. When they get to the other side of the gap, they can grab the Kremkoin.

At the end of the level, the Kongs will see a spring, and, as stated before, it will bounce them out of the level. But, instead of jumping on it, the monkeys should go past it, where they can climb up a hidden Ghost Rope and snatch away the DK Coin.
