In battle, Dreamcap Captains and Dreamcaps fight in together in hordes of around 18 to 36. If all the Dreamcap Captains are defeated and any Dreamcaps remain, the Dreamcaps will huddle together and one will run away with each turn. If the vast majority of Dreamcaps are defeated and any Dreamcap Captains remain, they will summon several more Dreamcaps to then be able to attack. The group may also charge towards Mario as a pack, whom Mario must move out of the way or jump over in order to avoid the attack. They may attack from the background, charging towards Mario in rows, which Mario must jump over or on to in order to avoid the attack.
Dreamcap Captains are purple, supposedly layered Capnap-like creatures that appear in Mario and Luigi: Dream Team.. They appear in groups with Dreamcaps and they are the captains of the groups that makes sure they are able to attack each turn. If the player defeats all the Dreamcap Captains in the Dreamcap group, the Dreamcaps will huddle together and one will run away with each turn. If all Dreamcaps are defeated and the Dreamcap Captain(s) is/are left standing, it/they'll summon 4-5 more Dreamcaps to then be able to attack.

Stronger versions of Dreamcap Captains called Dreamcap Captains R appear later on in the game.
Dreamcap Captains and Dreamcaps battle in clusters, and thus attack as a group. They may attack from the background, charging towards Mario in rows, all of which Mario must jump over to avoid the attack, or with precise timing, can land on the Dreamcap (Captain) that's lined up with him. The group may also just charge towards Mario as a whole, which Mario must jump on or over to avoid the attack, or if there's a safe opening in the Dreamcap formation, Mario can also step in line with the opening to avoid the attack.
