Like the airships in ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'', the Doom Ship is equipped with a large amount of artillery and also possesses a trait not seen in any games featuring airships: the ability to teleport to other locations. According to the bonus disc on the Shout! Factory DVD set, the Doom Ship was built by [[Ludwig von Koopa|Kooky von Koopa]].

The Doom Ship reappears in two ''[[Nintendo Adventure Books]]''. In ''[[Double Trouble (book)|Double Trouble]]'', Luigi is held captive on the Doom Ship by [[Roy Koopa]], but he can be rescued by Mario, who can also hijack the Doom Ship and use it to travel to Fort Koopa in the [[Koopahari Desert]]. In ''[[Leaping Lizards]]'', Iggy has possession of the Doom Ship and first appears with it after Morton signals him for backup after being confronted by Luigi, though upon sighting the plumber, the cowardly Koopaling abandons his brother out of fright. Luigi can choose to board the Doom Ship and, if he chooses to stay in hiding instead of trying to attack Iggy, is taken to the Koopaling's secret laboratory.

Bowser's Airship is a recurring location in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'' and ''[[New Super Luigi U]]''. It has the [[Mecha Hand]], a giant hand attachment resembling Bower's hand. It is used at the start of the game to attack Peach's Castle, where the Mecha Hand grabs [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], [[Yellow Toad and Blue Toad|Yellow Toad, and Blue Toad]], then throws them to [[Acorn Plains]]. Bowser's Airship flies around Peach's Castle for most of the game.

The ship is the setting for two courses. In both cases, Bowser's Airship comes down to attack the characters in a cutscene. Like {{world-link|6|airship|World 6-Airship (New Super Mario Bros. Wii)}} in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. Wii]]'', they are auto-scrolling courses with [[Bowser Jr.]] fought in the end. The first of the two is [[The Mighty Cannonship]] ([[All Aboard!]] in ''New Super Luigi U''), the first level of [[Soda Jungle]]. It takes place on the deck, then through the underwater cabin, and ends with a boss fight against Bowser Jr. The second course is [[Boarding the Airship]] ([[Bowser Jr. Showdown]] in ''New Super Luigi U''), the final level of [[Meringue Clouds]]. Unlike the other airship courses in the series, the level starts on the ground, working its way up to the bottom of the airship. The Mecha Hand appears as an obstacle. The level ends with the second boss fight with Bowser Jr. Afterward, Bowser Jr. attempts to attack the characters with the Mecha Hand but accidentally damages the airship. Bowser's Airship crashes right outside [[Peach's Castle#New Super Mario Bros. U|Peach's Castle]], and remains there until the game is completed.

The airship appears one more time in the ending, patched up and sputtering, as the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. use it to escape. It eventually crashes into a hill because of Bowser jumping aboard and his weight bringing it down, completely destroying it.

Bowser's Airship, now colored white and purple and heavily decorated, appears in ''[[Super Mario Odyssey]]''. The airship has undergone a small redesign, now resembling one of the airships from ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'' and sporting fifteen propellers, sails, what appear to be [[Power Moon]] tanks and a variety of smaller embellishments. Rather than the original theme, the new airship theme from ''[[Super Mario Maker]]'' for the ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' style plays during scenes in which it flies away.

In the premade world for the Super Mario Mash-up in ''[[Minecraft]]'', Bowser's Airship from ''New Super Mario Bros. U'' can be found near the entrance to the [[Valley of Bowser]]. The player can reach the airship via a [[cannon]] and enter its interior from a [[Warp Pipe|pipe]] on the deck. The first floor contains various traps, such as Dispensers releasing Arrows and Skeletons, which the player needs to avoid to pull some Levers that open doors leading to the rest of the airship. The second floor begins with a room containing a group of Zombies. After approximately 40 seconds, the doors to the next room open, revealing a Large Chest with the Music Disc "blocks" and the airship's exit.

Bowser's Airship appears near the end of ''[[Paper Mario: The Origami King]]'', after [[Mario]] and [[Olivia]] have destroyed all five streamers. Instead of the ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'' or ''[[Super Mario Odyssey]]'' design, it resembles one of the airships from ''[[Paper Mario: Color Splash]]'' but with the Bowser figurehead in the front and has eight propellers this time. It is stored inside a garage in an indoor hangar of Bowser's Castle until Mario presses a button (next to the one that Kamek had pressed by mistake) that makes the airship emerge from the garage and dock itself at the hangar. Once the remnants of Bowser's army all climb aboard, they travel to [[Peach's Castle]], but are intercepted by [[King Olly]]'s [[Paper Plane Squadron]]. The minions manage to fend some of them off with their own weaponry, while Mario picks up the slack via a [[Bob-omb]] cannon hidden within the ship's figurehead, but everyone is caught off guard when a particularly large plane crashes into the ship's side, sending it and its occupants crashing into [[Hotfoot Crater]]. Though the ship is beyond repair, its cannon is still functional, as Mario, Olivia, and Bowser use it to blast themselves the rest of the way to the castle.

A Collectible Treasure of Bowser's Airship (No. 112) can be found in the hangar of Bowser's Castle after Mario reaches Peach's Castle. It was initially bought by a Shy Guy who was excited about the airship, but became disheartened to the point of not wanting to keep it any longer after getting left behind at the hangar. Mario can return to the hangar to find this [[Shy Guy]]; when talked to, the Shy Guy will give the treasure to Mario.
