World 3 is the third normal world in New Super Mario Bros. 2. This world is both beach and jungle-themed, although the music is similar to that of World 4 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which is a beach-themed level. This world is unlocked when a player completes World 2-Castle or World Mushroom-Castle. The first half of the map is located at the seaside while the second half is located inland, where the jungle is, although the levels can take place between any of the two locations regardless of it's position on the world map.

There is a total of 12 levels and 3 Toad Houses in this world. There is one of each kind of Toad Houses in this world. Of the 12 levels, 8 are levels on the main path. Of these levels, 5 are normal levels, one is a Ghost House and the other two are the Tower (or Fortress) and Castle levels. Of the remaining 4 levels, two of them are normal levels (one is a secret level), one is the Cannon level and the last is the Rainbow level. The world's boss is Wendy O. Koopa, who is fought at the Castle level. However, the player can avoid fighting the bosses in this world by taking the world's Cannon, leading to World Flower.

Levels

World 3-Rainbow

To access this level, the timer must end with the two digits '33' (that is, 'x33', where 'x' can be any number) when the player reaches the flagpole of any World 3 level. Once the level is completed, it can be accessed again by satisfying the above condition once more.

Mario begins on an island in front of the pipe. Entering it will shoot Mario to the sky. He will first land on a moving yellow platform, where coins begin to shoot up from below like a fountain. This is followed by a Coin Roulette Block. More coins begin to be shot out where two 10 Gold Coins and one 100 Gold Coin fall from the top right corner of the screen. This is followed by two Coin Roulette Blocks and one large Coin Roulette Block. Finally, more coins will be shot out, marking the end of the level.

World 3-1

Mario begins on an orange platform at a beach. The level is mainly made up of hills of sand. Cheep-Cheeps that jump out of the water first appear here in the game. A ? Block containing a Super Leaf can be found here. Floating Barrels follow, which sinks when Mario is on it for too long. A Gold Ring appears here, which make coins follow behind Cheep-Cheeps. More Cheep-Cheeps follow, along with several more barrels. A row of Brick Blocks can then be found, one of them containing a ? Switch which makes coins to be released from a green Warp Pipe above. Another is a multi-coin block. Another hill of sand follows, along with the checkpoint. Rotating platforms and Piranha Plants begin to appear. Another Gold Ring can be found on several orange platforms, along with more jumping Cheep-Cheeps. After that, two ? Blocks appear, one of them having a Super Leaf. Following that is another set of rotating platforms with a Piranha Plant on one of them. A Coin Roulette Block can be found above a pipe with a Piranha Plant in it. One last Gold Ring appear, with more Cheep-Cheeps along the way. Finally, a green Warp Pipe leads out of the area. In the last area, there are stone platforms and several more Cheep-Cheeps which can help Mario reach the top of the flagpole not far away.

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: This Star Coin can be seen above three floating Barrels after the first Gold Ring. The player will need to hop off a Cheep-Cheep to reach it.
  • Star Coin 2: Immediately after the checkpoint, the player should see a Piranha Plant beside several Brick Blocks and a ? Block with a Fire Flower above the rotating platforms. When the Piranha Plant returns to it's pipe, Mario needs to wall kick off the pipe to find a hidden aclove with the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: When Mario reaches the Coin Roulette Block, he should stand on the barrel on the right of the pipe below it. The barrel will drop and reveal the Star Coin.

World 3-2

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: The first Star Coin is early in the level. The player may want to wait for the water current to disappear before grabbing it. If the player took the Warp Pipe earlier in the level, then the Star Coin is to the left of the exit point.
  • Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint, the player should enter the first gold Warp Pipe. Inside, the player should navigate around the Snake Blocks to reach the Star Coin in the middle.
  • Star Coin 3: The player should not miss the last Star Coin. It is located in the Snake Block passage at the end of the level.

World 3-3

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: The player should activate the first ! Switch at the start of the level. This will create some red blocks allowing Mario to enter the gold Warp Pipe. Inside, the player should activate the ! Switch in the center ? Block to create a block staircase. The player can then bounce off of the Scuttle Bug to reach the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint, the player should bounce off the second Scuttle Bug to reach another gold Warp Pipe. Inside the player should hit the ! Switch and use the platforms to reach the second Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: After exiting that area, the third Star Coin can be accessed by jumping between to two Spider Webs on the bottom.
