Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is a popular Player's Choice Game Boy video game. Wario makes his first appearance in this sequel to Super Mario Land. Like the first game, Shigeru Miyamoto was not involved at all.

Story

While Mario was rescuing Princess Daisy in the first installment of the game, Wario steals his castle. (This is the only game in which Mario owns a castle.) Mario, reasonably angry with Wario, sets out to reclaim it. However, Wario put a lock on the door which requires the six golden coins to open. To get these, Mario must move through levels stages such as sunken ships, the moon and a mechanical giant Mario! Once a zone's boss has been defeated, its coin flies to the door. When Mario retrieves all six coins, the door to the castle unlocks.

Wario's Castle is by far the hardest part of the game. It resembles Bowser's castle in other games, with similar elements including giant piranha plant statues and Donut Lifts. Wario is at the end of this level, and a rather long fight with him awaits Mario.

At the beginning of the game, there is a short tutorial to get players accustomed to the controls. Other features include game shortcuts, extra levels, and secrets! There's also a casino-like area in which Mario may gamble his coins for extra lives and power-ups.
