“Mametchi!”
Mametchi, Mario Kart Arcade GP 2

Mametchi is a character from Bandai's Tamagotchi franchise, which started out as a simple egg-shaped virtual pet toy and has since enjoyed over 20 years of success, spawning into other media such as video games, merchandise, and anime. More often than not, Mametchi is the result of a Tamagotchi with the best possible care, being portrayed as a very intelligent and well-mannered Tamagotchi in almost all Tamagotchi media. Mametchi was initially one of several faces, but eventually became the mascot of the Tamagotchi franchise as a whole.

History

Mario Kart Arcade GP 2

Mametchi in his Standard Kart

Mametchi's first (and currently only) appearance in the Mario franchise is in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, where he is a playable guest character presumably to coincide with Bandai's then-recent merger with Namco. He is categorized as an Easy-Control character, sharing stats with Ms. Pac-Man and Toad.

Mametchi is able to use five special items: Bagubagutchi, Mame Block, Chibi Syrup, Mame Drink, and Giant Pencil.

As with the other characters, in addition to a standard kart, Mametchi gets a special vehicle that slightly reduces acceleration in exchange for increased speed. Mametchi's special vehicle loosely resembles a Tamagotchi virtual pet that is pulled by a wheeled mechanical Tamagotchi wearing a Kasa.

Although Mametchi does not have his own cup, he shares the Waluigi Cup with Waluigi, as both Stadium Arena and Waluigi Stadium feature various Tamagotchi-related advertisements, including cameo appearances of some of his relatives and associates; younger sister Template:Wikia, mother Template:Wikia, father Template:Wikia, Tama-Friends Template:Wikia, Template:Wikia, Template:Wikia, and Template:Wikia, teacher Template:Wikia, and the home planet of his kind, the Template:Wikia.

Trivia

  • 10 years prior to the release of Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, the Japan-only Nintendo 64 game 64 de Hakken!: Minna de Tamagotchi World featured "Rare Special" adult Tamagotchis based on Mario and Wario, named Mariotchi and Waruotokotchi respectively.
  • Not counting some Costume Mario outfits in Super Mario Maker, Mametchi is the only non-Nintendo character who made an appearance in any Mario game that did not originate as a video game character, originating from a virtual pet instead.
