Dorakyū (compressed)

Dorachū (ドラチュー[1]) are aerodynamic, vampire bat-resembling enemies from the Game Boy remake of Donkey Kong. They make their debut in stage 4-5 of the Jungle.

Dorachū fly horizontally and across the screen, turning in the opposite direction after bumping into a wall and usually passing by ropes Mario can climb. When one of these enemies intercepts Mario, it hangs onto and appears to strangle him. Mario is shown to progressively turn pale whilst he chokes. After Mario undergoes the enemy's attack, he drops off the rope he is currently climbing. Depending on the height reached from the ground beneath, Mario might either survive the fall or lose a life upon crashing onto the soil. Even though it is risky for Mario to directly interact with Dorachū bats, these can be knocked out with either falling fruit or carriable objects and enemies.

The name "Dorachū" is a combination of 「ドラキュラ」, Dorakyura (meaning Dracula), and "chu", a mousey squeaking noise. In Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Kōmori take the role of Dorachū, borrowing the same vampire bat-styled attack pattern.
