Donkey Kong Jr. is an Arcade game that was one of only two games to have Mario cast as a villain (the other was Donkey Kong II). It was the direct sequel to Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong Jr. had to rescue his father, Donkey Kong, from Mario, perhaps holding a grudge for the kidnapping of his girlfriend Pauline. Donkey Kong Jr. had to climb vines and leap on trampolines to rescue his dad from Mario. Donkey Kong Jr. also had to avoid Snapjaws.

Donkey Kong Jr. never enjoyed the sales or the following that the original Donkey Kong did, but it did well enough to warrant a third sequel, Donkey Kong 3.

Later, Rare, in the Donkey Kong Country series, said that Cranky Kong was the kidnapped character and Donkey Kong was Donkey Kong Jr. However Nintendo seems to not like this and calls the current Donkey Kong the kidnapped one.

Trivia

  • In the 2nd episode of the Cartoon Network serie "Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?" was featuring a part that 2 kids where playing a "Gameboy" Version of this game.
