Template:Level Yold Desert is an area in the Lineland dimension from Super Paper Mario. Throughout the desert, the Ancients left clues on how to advance and eventually reach the Yold Ruins deep within the sandy wasteland. The name "Yold" is a corruption of a combination of the and old. This level is notable for having the first boss battle in the game, against O'Chunks.

Chapter 1-3: The Sands of Yold

Template:Spoiler Following his adventures with the two Bridgemasters of Yold Town, Mario found himself in the Yold Desert. The heat made him weary, yet he pushed onwards. The desert was covered in quicksand and the spikeless living stones, Bald Clefts. Not much occurred through the desert voyage, though Mario encountered many new enemies and discovered the Speed Flower and Slow Flower.

After learning from a statue of Fracktail to jump ten times while beneath a red palm tree (this wasn't his first dealings with such a tree; he had to spin around one in Dry Dry Outpost earlier in Paper Mario), Mario encountered none other than Count Bleck's burliest minion, O'Chunks. The two did battle, but Mario emerged the victor thanks to the help of Thoreau.

Eventually after following the guidance of one or two additional statues, Mario found a blue altar. Thanks to the player's pressing of the 1 and - buttons at the same time, the entrance to the Yold Ruins was revealed in the form of a slider puzzle. This too wasn't new to Mario; the opening of the gate was similar to the Hawkmouths from Super Mario Bros. 2.

Taking a deep breath, Mario entered the Yold Ruins. Template:Endspoiler
