Tryclyde
- “Step right up, if you're ready to get toasted!”
- —Tryclyde, Super Mario Advance
Tryclyde is a hydra-like, three headed snake. Red in color for the Nintendo Entertainment System, green for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Two of its heads shoot fireballs at the player. It's the boss of World 2 and 6 in Super Mario Bros. 2 and only World 2 of Super Mario Advance.
In his chamber are a pile of Mushroom Blocks and usually a Tweeter. The player has to throw them at Tryclyde to win. For a defense strategy, stack the fireproof blocks in a column, and throw the extras over the wall.
Due to the original red coloring of Tryclyde, it is assumed by many that he is either an adult Cobrat, or a Cobrat who has been transformed by King Wart's magic (as Clawgrip is shown to be in Super Mario Advance).
Appearances in Other Media
Cartoons
Tryclyde was featured in several episodes of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, which depicted him as being quite powerful, though somewhat idiotic. Instead of working for Wart, as he did in Super Mario Bros. 2, Tryclyde instead worked for King Koopa in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, often appearing to help him, Mouser and a Koopa Troopa in their plots; also, despite being shown to talk in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Tryclyde rarely did so.
Comics
Though Tryclyde never made a direct appearance in any issues of Nintendo Comics System, one of the comics' "Dear Princess Toadstool" features had him writing to Princess Toadstool in a thinly veiled attempt to get a date with her.
