Template:Minigame-infobox Day at the Races is a battle minigame in the game Mario Party 2. Random Ride, a minigame from Mario Party 5, is very similar to Day at the Races.

Gameplay

Day at the Races: Four different creatures (from left to right: Whomp, Thwomp, Boo, and Bob-omb) lining up to prepare for the race. From Mario Party 2.
Participants on the start line, preparing to begin the race.

It involves the players choosing one of the four characters, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

  • Whomp – Walks fast but falls over and takes a long time to get up.
  • Thwomp – Rises above the floor and jumps forward but then drops down and takes a long time to get up.
  • Boo – Disappears and then reappears a lot further than before, but gets his face stuck in the ground sometimes.
  • Bob-omb – Starts a spark running from its fuse and moves very fast but occasionally falls over.

Once the players chose their characters, the minigame announcer will alert the player to start the race. When that happens, it comes down to luck. The first character who will cross the finish line is the winner of the race, and the battle minigame.

Trivia

  • This minigame is the first minigame in any Mario Party game to involve the players choosing a computer character for them in a bookmakers-style of gameplay.
  • The order is determined by position; 4th place goes 1st, 3rd goes second, and so on.
  • The minigame's name is possibly a reference to the album by the band Queen, or the 1937 film starring the Marx Brothers.
