Sand Piles[1] are obstacles found in the original Donkey Kong and the remake for the Game Boy.

History

Donkey Kong

Sand Piles are only found in the 50m level in the original Donkey Kong. They are on the multiple Conveyor Belts that are in the level and if Mario touches one, he will lose a life. The only way to destroy a Sand Pile is to use a Hammer.

Donkey Kong (Game Boy)

Cement tub (compressed)

In the Game Boy game, Sand Piles later appear in several other boss fights with Donkey Kong. After Donkey Kong stomps the ground, random objects will fall down from the ceiling, including Sand Piles. Touching a Sand Pile will still kill Mario here.
