Location[edit]

Would anyone happen to know where the Platform Blocks appear in NSMB? 5-1 is the only level that links to it, but the Player's Guide doesn't mention the Block at all in that location, and the Pocket Guide only refers to it as a "Block". With two guides to look through, I'd prefer having precise locations. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

2-1, 5-1, 7-A and 8-2 are the only appearances. --Hiccup (talk) 06:32, 8 January 2016 (EST)
Thank you so much! Unfortunately, the block is barely mentioned: in the Pocket Guide, it's only as the aforementioned "Block", and in the Player's Guide, it's only mentioned here: "The blocks at point 2 [on the map] will expand vertically when you hit them. Punch them three times to create a platform that's high enough to allow you to leap over the POket and reach the coins." So, if the block's named somewhere, it's not in New Super Mario Bros. Organization[edit]

This block's name is a mess. There are three different Japanese names, two of which are shared with other objects (Stretch Blocks for New Super Mario Bros. and ! Block for Super Mario 3D World). The English name currently used for the article (face block) would only apply to the first two appearances (New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 3D Land), and the main block uses the name ! Block, which also only applies to two appearances (Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Maker 2). And on top of that, it's a ? Block in Super Mario 3D World, and the Prima guide specifically refers to the large ones are Mega ? Blocks. Lastly, the New Super Mario Bros. version is the one that's least like the others, being neither a ! Block or ? Block and only stacking four blocks upwards. How do we present this information cleanly? It's rather forced to have it all in one article, and I'm almost considering just merging the sections into Stretch Block, ! Block and ? Block (and renaming the conjectural Giant ? Block while we're at it). Any other thoughts? LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:34, May 17, 2019 (EDT)

The Super Mario 3D Land ones resemble the first iteration, only coming out of an ! Block rather than being out (Yeah, i'm not sure wether a connection was intended there either, even the Stretch Block). The Super Mario 3D World ones should be split into "Mega ? Block", while we should hold off for the Super Mario Maker 2) --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 14:44, May 17, 2019 (EDT)
Another reason I'm suggesting simply merging the sections is because the Giant ? Block article technically has to be renamed as well since we have some official Japanese names for it, and if the guide takes them for the same thing then I figure we might as well consider Mega ? Block (which doesn't have a Japanese equivalent) to be its English name. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:22, May 17, 2019 (EDT)
I see. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 03:36, May 19, 2019 (EDT)
The Giant ? Block is actually named Mega ? Block in Super Mario Run as well, which was overlooked earlier. Note that Mega Block is known as Big Block in Super Mario 3D World. LinkTheLefty (talk) 04:21, May 29, 2019 (EDT)
Out of curiosity, what are the internal filename in both New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3d land, and Super Mario 3D World? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 05:12, June 3, 2019 (EDT)
I would actually just move the SMM2 stuff to ! Block (the game isn't out yet so it shouldn't be too late for any moves). Both ? Block and ! Block have done different things throughout the franchise but are one page because they're the same types of block. They've made recurring appearances with varying functions (their names even suggest mysterious/surprising results when hit, which would imply a variety of them by extension), SMM2 would have to be another one of those. Had we known it was named "! Block" from the start, I'm sure someone would have just added the info to ! Block, and not here (which is my fault, since I also listed "Platform Block-like block" on the main game page - note that I added the info based on "Platform Block-like", so this shouldn't be officially staying here at all).
Same reasoning for the 3D World blocks. Keep in mind both were added as quick mentions before they were split into sections and somehow "officially" considered "Face blocks", which isn't what we should be doing. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 09:16, June 9, 2019 (EDT)
I agree. It's also surprising how is the Stretch Block off-model and off-function in New Super Mario Bros. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 08:08, June 13, 2019 (EDT)
