It's likely that the same composer (Kenta Nagata) who worked on both compositions, hence the musical similarities. Sometimes composers accidentally imitate themselves without realizing it, it happens to Koji Kondo all the time. That doesn't mean they're "sneaking in references." Since there's no official confirmation that this is a reference, I'm removing it. undo
