Maya Ibuki is a 24 year old female employee at NERV. She is, well duh, First Lieutenant, and a computer technician who works primarily with Ritsuko Akagi, but we'll skip her for now, this page is about Maya. Her main role in the series is to sit around and make sure the Evangelion pilots don't get all stupid, and make sure their synchronization ratios don't a splode.
Personality
Apart from the boring NERV crap, she's actually a really nice person, and doesn't like violance. She even puked when the Evangelion Unit 01 ate an Angel's big power thingeh :O. Through about half of a movie she hid under a desk hugging a pink pillow, and when thing's get too bloody, she doesn't really help at all. You really start to question why NERV hired her, and why she's not fired yet.
Lesbian?
Some of the jerks over at Wikipedia have complained that she's a Lesbian because of how she acts towards Ritsuko Akagi, and for the sole reason that she calls her "Senpai". Another small amount of evidence they managed to dig out of their brainz was a tiny scene at the end of "End of Evangelion" where she hugs a fake Ritsuko Akagi and than turns into LCL after shouting "Senpai" a few times... Wow, maybe she is a lesbian, but that's beside the point.
Appearances
Just about every episode of the Neon Genesis Evangelion, plus all the movies and stuff. Even though she appears so much, she is incredibly undeveloped compared to most of the characters, who all get at least half an hour worth of emo flash backs about themselves. Due do this, she's usually considered an "obscure" character, despite having a large amount of appearances.
