This variety's grounded segment bounces a [[Pokey (projectile)|smaller green Pokey]] on top of it. The heading variety of Pokeys first appears in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' and [[Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3|its reissue]], and later appears in ''[[Yoshi's New Island]]''. In every appearance, if a [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]] defeats the [[Pokey (projectile)|Needlenose]] on a Pokey's head, the grounded segment frowns and lies down, becoming harmless. However, it produces another Needlenose shortly afterwards, and it resumes bouncing it. Pokeys cannot be defeated, with the exception of an [[Anywhere POW]].
