Cosmic Mario is a character in the recently released game Super Mario Galaxy. He appears as a shadowy clone of Mario, similar in appearance to Shadow Mario. When a Cosmic Comet is flying by in a level, Cosmic Mario will appear from it and challenge Mario to a race. Mario then has to get through numerous obstacles against Cosmic Mario to get the star. If the player is playing as Luigi, Cosmic Luigi will appear in place of Cosmic Mario. This could be Il Piantissimo in disguise because he found the paintbrush at the end of Super Mario Sunshine and probably assumed a form that looks just like Shadow Mario in Super Mario Galaxy and the fact that he raced Mario in Super Mario Sunshine.
