Octoomba

An Electrogoomba is an enemy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is an alien, amphibious Goomba. They are seen in various parts of the game and they headbutt Mario when he approaches. In some cases, if Mario destroys some, a secret might be unveiled, as seen on the Space Boat, where Mario had to eliminate two of them to make a bridge appear.

They can easily be squashed. When jumped on, a Coin is always left by them. When a Star Spin is used to defeat them, they leave 3 star bits.

Appearance

Electrogoombas are very detailed, odd looking Goombas. They have smooth skin with a blue head and yellow spots all over. They have a rounded mouth like a Snifit and attack with headbutts. Unlike regular Goombas, they only patrol a very small set area. They also have yellow, glowing eyes and a small antenna on the top of their head.

Subspecies

One subspecies is a brown color. It is immobile, but can shoot projectiles at Mario, which include harmless coconuts that need to be hit back. Only the head is visible on these, as they hide inside holes or barrels. They make a strange squeaking noise before they shoot. This variety often appears in pre-boss levels and serve as mini-bosses. Another species is red, and shoots rocks from their tubular mouths. There is also a bright blue woven blooper that digs underground. The brown species appear in the Space Junk Galaxy, where they do not hide inside a barrel and therefore their whole bodies are exposed, revealing a few tentacles. These Electrogoombas, unlike the ones in other levels, only shoot fire, and therefore Mario must use shells to destroy them.
