After the Big Red Paint Star colors in the Scarlet Gate, Mario and Huey are able to go through it. After a short while, a giant Banzai Bill falls from the sky and churches into the nearby mountain. After battling some Shy Guys at the log mill, Mario and Huey investigate the crash site and find it covered in black paint. After Huey gets rid of the black paint, they are able to move on to Chateau Chanterelle. At the Chateau Chanterelle, Mario and Huey learn about a professor and his dog, a Chain Chomp named Princess. They then move on to Mondo Woods, where everything has been turned very large due to Kamek's magic. Further on in the woods, they stumble into a giant uncolored coin, witch they ignore for the time being. They then meet the professor who is sad at the fact that his dog had ran away. Huey then tells the professor that she may have went home witch makes the professor return to his home. They go back to Chateau Chanterelle to find the professor still sad because his dog is not there. The professor gives the duo a permit so they can go to the excavation site were they my find princess. At Marmalade Vally, Some Toads find a big Dragoneel fossil and are being very careful to not damage it. After a few small earthquakes, Mario and Huey are chased by a huge Princess, witch was turned big due to Kamek's magic. After grabbing the mini paint star, The duo goes back to Chateau Chanterelle and places the bone sticker on the ground which causes Princess to squash the professor over and over before leaving with the bone. The Proffecer gets very happy that Princess is safe and gives Mario the Sharp Spike. The Duo then goes to the Kiawano temple. after smashing the railroad, Mario inserts the sharp spike into the door to be able to get inside. After battling a big spiny for the Mini Paint Star, Mario and Huey move on to the Golden Colosseum, where the Big Yellow Paint Star is being Held. After fighting off the competitors of the battle royal with a superstar, Mario faces off against Iggy Koopa in his chariot.
