There's no source listed that the Mario Mash-Up Wither skin is a reference to Megasmilax. The resource pack was mainly inspired by Super Mario 64 and more recent Mario games, and there is the absence of spines on the vine of the Wither to make it a direct reference to Megasmilax. It could have been an accidental homage? I just don't see Mojang/4J Studios pulling from Super Mario RPG of all games, especially since the pack was released long before the remake was even known about. --JoeCool (talk) 13:01, November 14, 2023 (EST)

:This was brought up over here, and the general consensus seemed to be that it had the least issues as an appearance of Megasmilax/Smilaxes compared to the alternatives. LinkTheLefty (talk) 17:05, November 14, 2023 (EST)

Merge Material?
So, this is an odd situation. Strictly in terms of battle, "Smilax" (つぼみ, bud) refers to the smaller parts of the flower, and "Megasmilax" (クィーンフラワー, Queen Flower) refers to the big part. Simple enough to follow. However, in multiple pieces of dialog outside of battle, Shy Away / Beezo refers to the flower as the former in English, and the latter in Japanese. In the remake (at least as far as I've ascertained in English), this is unchanged. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the outlier as it uses separate translations in other languages than what would be used in the remake of Super Mario RPG. Considering the recent cake merge and the general merge of the big Piranha buds (with the notable exception of Lava Piranha, which can maybe be a separate discussion), should Megasmilax be merged with Smilax? It would also be somewhat consistent with King Calamari's tentacles and Exor's face. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:35, December 15, 2023 (EST)
