Donkey Kong appears in ''[[The Super Mario Bros. Movie]]''. As shown in the movie's second trailer, there is a scene in which he fights Mario in a coliseum with an audience of Kongs and overwhelms him easily, and later drives a kart on [[Rainbow Road]]. He lives in the Jungle Kingdom. He has a slightly changed design in the movie which, according to [[Shigeru Miyamoto]], is intended to accentuate his comical personality. Donkey Kong is first mentioned by Cranky Kong, who challenges Mario to duel ~~with~~ him as a means to decide whether or not he will lend the Kong army to [[Princess Peach]] to aid the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] in defeating [[Bowser]]. During the duel, Donkey Kong heavily excels Mario in combat and almost defeats him before being brought to his own defeat by a Mario then turned into a [[Cat Mario|cat]]. Later, he joins the Kongs' [[kart]]-riding army against Bowser's own, and ~~utimately~~ falls from the [[Rainbow Road]] alongside Mario into a body of water below where he almost drowns, being then saved by the plumber. Both are eaten by a [[Maw-Ray]], but are able to escape using a [[Rocket Barrel]] from Donkey Kong's wrecked kart. Donkey Kong later advances alongside Mario through the Mushroom Kingdom to reach the Koopa king's wedding ~~with Princess Peach~~, and saves the to-be-sacrificed captives from being submerged in lava.
