The Drill Bit is an unused enemy from (and therefore possible Beta Element of) Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is extremely notorious for being mentioned several times in the game (and even appearing once), among other various oddities.

Drill Bit is a minor character built by the Smithy Gang in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is related to Jabits, and is a red recolor of them. It is mentioned late in the game by one of the Manager's Pounders as a new creation scheduled to be finished on time. Its role in the game is acting as one of Smithy's three advisors that appear at the end of his initial fight (alongside an Aero and a Shymore), urging Smithy not to angrily shake the floor for his own sake.

Drill Bits seem to be related to Jabbits, and are recolors of them (which virtually confirms the fact that they would've been either stronger or weaker versions of them if they'd stayed in the game). Their only real role in Super Mario RPG is being an unseen prototype lackey for the Smithy Gang (as one of the Manager's Pounders suggests in the game), although one of them actually manages to make an appearance at the end of the initial fight with Smithy (where he is one of three enemies who tells Smithy that it'd be best if he didn't get angry). However, they exist in the game's coding as enemies. Little is known about what role they would play in the game (or even why they weren't used), but it is know that they would say "This is for Yaridovich!" if Mallow attacked them with Psychopath superbly.
Drill Bit is mentioned as a boss enemy in the Shogakukan and Nintendo Power guides, with the former placing it between the fake Yaridovich and second Belome and the latter specifying it in World 5. It is likely that it had a connection with Yaridovich, as the later Machine Made Yaridovich can use a move called Multiplier! in which it splits into four grey Machine Made Drill Bits rather than create a doppelgänger. This is supported by the fact that Drill Bit exists in the game data as a single enemy or a group between the monster values of the Sea area and Land's End, and its thought "This is for Yaridovich!"

Another instance of Drill Bit's surprising amount of publicity is that it was once listed in an old Nintendo Power guide. Drill Bit may be the most well-known unused enemy in any Mario game. According to the guide, Drill Bits would have appeared in World 5, the location of Star Hill, Seaside Town, the Sea, and the Sunkn Ship. Given Drill Bit's relationship with the Smithy Gang and Yaridovich, the enemy may have originally been one of Yaridovich's henchmen, especially since the guide places Drill Bit in the "Bosses" section.

*The Machine Made Yaridovich has an attack called Multiplier! where he splits into four gray Jabbits. These "Jabbits" may actually be Machine Made Drill Bits, especially since Drill Bit seems to have an ambiguous connection to Yaridovich.
