'''Yellow Toad''' and '''Blue Toad''', collectively known as '''Toads''', and sometimes individually as just '''Toad''',<ref>''New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe''</ref> are [[Toad (species)|Toads]] who made their first appearance in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. Wii]]'' as playable sidekicks for [[Mario]], along with [[Luigi]]. Yellow Toad and Blue Toad have reprised their roles as playable characters in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'' and ''[[Super Mario Bros. Wonder]]'', and they have also made appearances in various other games as well.

In ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe]]'', Yellow Toad and Blue Toad share one character slot under the generic identifier of "Toad," and the two can be switched between on the character select screen by holding the L or ZL button (SL button when playing with a single Joy-Con).

Yellow Toad along with Blue Toad are featured in the forty-first and forty-second issues of ''[[Super Mario-kun]]''. As the story is based on ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'', the two Toads are introduced as Mario's new accomplices. Throughout the adaption of the two issues, Yellow Toad plays an important role by journeying alongside Mario, Luigi, and Blue Toad on their quest to rescue [[Princess Peach]] from [[Bowser]] and his forces.

Both Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are seen in their [[Propeller Mario|Propeller forms]] on the cover of issue 41.

In ''[[Super Mario 3D Land]]'', Mario is joined by three Toads on his adventure, including a yellow Toad and a blue Toad, which is similar to what Yellow Toad and Blue Toad do in their appearances, possibly hinting it is them.

In ''[[The Super Mario Bros. Movie]]'', when [[Mario]] and Toad attempt to enter Princess Peach's Castle they are stopped by two Toad guards, one yellow and one blue. Given their coloration, occupation, and the spotlight put on them in contrast with the other Toad guards, it is possible that they're references to Yellow Toad and Blue Toad respectively or possibily are the characters in question.

In ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'', Yellow Toad has a higher pitched voice that is very much like the voice that the [[Yellow Toad (Toad Brigade)|Yellow Toad]] of the [[Toad Brigade]] had in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', who also sounded higher pitched in comparison to the other Toads in the game, while Blue Toad has a lower pitched voice. However, since ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'', the voices of Yellow Toad and Blue Toad were changed, with Yellow Toad having a lower pitched voice while Blue Toad has a higher pitched voice.
