It only became apparent to me that this may be a little contentious after I started initiating changes (sorry about that - I already made a similar slip up recently on the Purple Coin Ball page. I will be more thoughtful going forward). However, I moved the name of this article from fake Goal Pole to illusion because while both "names" (i.e. Prima Guide authors/editors applying a noun to a thing as they see it, rather than Nintendo providing a specific name for the thing) are attested in the SM3DW Prima Guide, the latter is a more accurate bridge between what this object is conceptualized in Japan, where it is referred to as テレサのイタズラ (Teresa no Itazura), meaning "Boo's prank" in the Shogakukan Encyclopedia (page 233), and they do not break this up into a fake Goal Pole, fake Mystery Box, etc. They lump them together as one. The sense I have is that the interpretation of these things as separate objects is a western misinterpretation. They are all suppose to be one subject.

They do not break up "Boo's prank" into a fake Goal Pole, fake Mystery Box, etc. They lump them together as one, and it is evident in the images they assign to this object on page 233. The sense I have is that the interpretation of a fake Goal Pole, fake Mystery Box, etc. as separate objects rather than one is a western misinterpretation. They are all suppose to be one subject.

While there are similar subjects in previous games (such as various illusionary Ghost House doors, which are treated as a separate object in the encyclopedia under the name ニセ扉, Nise Tobira), to the best of my knowledge, this "illusion object" is exclusive to Super Mario 3D World, so the impacts of a merge or split is small.
