''Donkey Kong Country Returns'' Prima Official Game Guide. Page 27.</ref>, are skeletal dinosaur enemies that appear in ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns]]'' and ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D]]''. They are a derived fiery species of [[Bonehead Jed]]s. They ride in barrel [[Mine Cart]]s and only their head and extendable neck is visible. Like Bonehead Jeds, Hothead Jeds only appear in three of the earlier [[Cliff]] levels including: [[Sticky Situation (level)|Sticky Situation]], [[Prehistoric Path]], and [[Boulder Roller]].

Hothead Jeds behave similar to Bonehead Jeds, except that they ride in barrel [[Mine Cart]]s filled with molten rock, giving their empty eye sockets a orange-red glow. They can also extend their neck to shoot out fireballs. If a [[Kong]] comes into contact with a Hothead Jed, they take damage. To defeat a Hothead Jed, [[Donkey Kong]] must [[jump]] on it twice, with the first hit temporarily immobilizing them. Other attack methods such as throwing a [[barrel]] also work, although [[Kong Roll]]s remain ineffective.
