Yes, Snack is absolutuley right about the "This may be an encyclopedia, but it is an encyclopedia based on a series of KID-FRIENDLY games" thing. That's exactly what I've been trying to say. But this works to protect the quote to and more people like it... so I'm going to settle for this. I don't want to get into the argument again. {{User:CrystalYoshi/sig}}

LOOK HERE, EVERYONE. This is the MARIOWIKI, not the HALO 3 WIKI. If this was a wiki based on, say, an "M" rated game like '''Bioshock''', people would expect that we would have stuff like this and steer clear. But Mario games are ALWAYS rated E/E10+. There is a MUCH better chance that a young kid could be scarred by this than by going on the Wikipedia, or the Bioshock wikia. GET IT? We always have been a little different; we make our own rules here. OK? It's all right for an encyclopedia like ours to censor this stuff. {{User:3dejong/sig|my, what thick skulls you have!}}

What about a new quote to replace the current one? I think the real issue is that having a quote, be it negative or not, outweighs not having one at all. However, the current quote is both outright negative and contains profanity. Surely there's something better to use? In fact, I've found several potential replacements that far better portray Hoskins and the film.

#{{User|MrConcreteDonkey}} Sigh, look at the reasons for opposing in the other 'Proposal' section. Per all those. Also, that first quote is terrible and has nothing to do with Mario. The second one is nothing special. Anyway, it's just a little bit of swearing. What harm will it do, most everyone has heard a swear word in their life, and this article is off the beaten track anyway.

@MCD: Does it matter? Anyways, we don't need information on what happened in the movie because this is not an article ''on'' the movie, the subject at hand here is Bob Hoskins so we must have a quote that represents Bob Hoskins, not the Super Mario Bros. movie. I say we cut it down again and see how people react. {{User|Marioguy1}}

Here's a better revision of the show/hide revision of the quote.  The background is changed to yellow to make it easier on people's eyes, and I used the term "foul", instead of "swear".  Anyway, the Super Mario Wiki is child-friendly, so not hiding this quote would be going against that policy.

<br clear=all>
No, we are NOT censoring the quote. Not with asterisks, not by shortening it, not by replacing it, and certainly not with a garish template. Our mandate us not to protect children, but to provide everyone with all the information we possible can in an efficient and professional manner. It's not nudity or gore, it's a ''word'', and it's not against policy AT ALL. Users aren't allowed to swear at each other, since that's flaming, but that's not the case here. If any policy page says we can't have profanity in quotations in our articles, then it's outdated and wrong. Every discussion and proposal trying to get rid of the profanity has failed, and they will continue to fail: the community has spoken, repeatedly. The quotation and all it's profanity is staying: live with it. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 21:44, 12 August 2011 (EDT)
I merely ran into this article while patrolling edits.  I did find it odd that the article displayed foul words, since most places that I go to don't tolerate such words.  And after all this time, I thought we were all about being child-friendly.  Boy am I a sucker. {{User:M&amp;SG/sig}} 22:03, 12 August 2011 (EDT)
I realized something. What kind of kid would look up Bob Hoskins? Even if they were unlucky enough to stumble across this movie, kids don't pay attenion to the scrollin' credits! They just call him Mario or Eddie Valiant. {{User|Magikrazy51}} [[File:Magikrazy.png|30px]]
I know a wiki with a swearing template (the HR wiki), but allusions to swearing are so common in Homestar Runner, it has its own article as opposed to ONE instance in ONE obscure article that no kid would look up as explained by my above statement. If the Mario world had swearing or allusions to it, I'd suggest a template, but instead I say "No thanks, officer. Iv'e got one big round one". {{User|Magikrazy51}} [[File:Magikrazy.png|30px]]

== the quote ==
No, this isn't about censoring it.
I think it needs to be shortened. The quote takes up as much space as the actual information about him. It's pretty ridiculous. I think this would be a suitable shortening.
"The worst thing I ever did? Super Mario Brothers. It was a fuckin' nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare."
Anyone else agree or is the length fine? {{User|Magikrazy}}
:I'd rather see the article lengthened rather than chopping out some of the scarce, interesting content in the name of balance balance: that's kinda going the ''opposite'' direction from improving the page. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 15:27, 10 December 2015 (EST)
::I think two aspects of quotes are this, by priority: if they illustrate the character and if they're succinct.
