I don't understand why this page is labelled "Mario Series" when it describes a franchise. The side-scrolling Mario games, Mario Kart, the Mario RPGs, etc. are each clearly different series, even though they share many characters. Aside from the fact that the games are drastically different, they use different numbering systems (the 7 in Mario Kart 7 does not count any games other than Mario Kart games). Changing this would also solve a lot of the problem people mention above about series/sub-series/sub-sub-series distinctions.
