| There really isn't a "the" Toad anymore. Any generic Toad with a remotely-important appearance is just assumed to be named Toad, not so much by us, but by Nintendo themselves. Same goes for Yoshi and Boom Boom, and to a lesser extent Kamek (because he has a definite specific role).
