Total Rekoil is the fourth level in Donkey Kong Land III and of the first world, Cape Codswallop. It takes place inside a large water-mill located in the center of the world. The level's name is likely a reference to either "total recall" (photographic memory) or the film Total Recall. Total Rekoil takes place in a water mill with many ropes and elevator platforms that Dixie and Kiddy can use to progress in the level.

Layout
When the level starts out, the heroes jump onto an elevator lift and head to the second floor. There, they move along several ledges on a long pathway, defeating some Rekoils. Soon, they see an elevator lift that guides them to another lift. This lift takes them to the letter K and then to the next floor, where they travel east and dodge more Rekoils to spy a rope. If they climb up this rope, they reach an even higher floor. There, they drop down from a boardwalk and ride to the letter O on an elevator lift. Once they do this, they continue west and soon come up to the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the monkeys ride up a set of lifts to reach yet another floor. There, they move east, beating some Sneeks and finding the letter N under a large boardwalk. Walking farther into the level, they jump over some ledges and find another elevator lift. It leads them to the next floor, where they head west again and find the letter G in a small alcove. Farther on, they pass a few Kobbles and a Rekoil to see a flagpole. If they touch the flagpole, the level ends.
As this level's name implies, it is infested with Re-Koils, who try to block the Kongs' way as they ascent through the musty mill. Hopping all over certain areas, they can be quite a hazard to careless explorers. However, these are not the only enemies in the Kongs' way, as Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong also encounter Kobbles, Sneeks and Buzzes. Many of these enemies try to hinder the monkeys' progress, while they climb up ropes, ride up elevator lifts and make their way over the wooden surface of the level.

*DK Barrels: 3
*Just as the level starts, the Kongs need to jump up and land in an invisible barrel. It fires them to a Bonus Barrel. This special barrel takes them into a Bonus Level, where they need to run across a straight pathway and defeat a few enemies. If they beat all these enemies and make it to the end of the area in twenty seconds, they will be awarded with a Bonus Coin.
*Extra Life Balloon: 1
*Shortly after the letter N, the heroes ride up an elevator lift to the next floor. On their travels, they can see an elevator to the right, which they must jump onto an ride high through the mill. Above them, they can see a Bonus Barrel, which they need to jump into. It takes them to a Bonus Level, where the apes have to simply run through the area and collect twenty four stars in thirty seconds. Avoiding a lone Re-Koil, they soon find a Bonus Coin to get with their remaining time.

*After the monkeys pass the level's first Booty Bird, they need to continue along the path to find an elevator lift. They have to ignore the elevator and continue west to find a Koin, with the DK Coin. They have to defeat him to get it. Though his shield protects him from most attacks, the monkeys can use a Steel Keg found on the above boardwalk and throw it against the wall. As the Koin pays attention to the monkeys, the barrel bounced back and hit him on the side, giving the heroes his DK Coin.
After the first Booty Bird, the Kongs must go down a path, pass an elevator and continue left to find a Koin. Dixie or Kiddy can go on the boardwalk above to pick up a Steel Barrel. They must then go down and throw the Steel Barrel at a wall to the left of Koin, causing it to bounce into him from behind and defeat him. The Kongs are rewarded the DK Coin.

In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have twenty seconds to go across a straight pathway and defeat a Buzz with a Steel Barrel, then two Rekoils and a Sneek. After defeating the enemies, a Bonus Coin appears to the very right of the level.

*Collect the Stars!: After the letter N, the Kongs must go past a Booty Bird and continue going right. They must jump onto an elevator platform and then to the right onto another one. When the second elevator reaches the top, the Kongs must jump up to a banana to land into a Bonus Barrel. In the Bonus Level, the Kongs have 30 seconds to collect 24 stars.
