:Thank you for being civil about it, and I suppose unless Nintendo reconciles the two after the former design's appearance in MKT, the Ice Mario thing is aa good enough reason to keep split. Still bugs me they'd rename the "normal" Mechakoopa for it, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:30, January 24, 2021 (EST)

I do have a working theory on what might've happened. Bear with me and hopefully this'll make some sense. So, we know that the Sunshine robot is apparently named after the recurring Mechakoopa from Super Mario World. It came to my attention here that it seems the original Mechakoopa was renamed at one point in Japanese, and it just so happens that this name is shared with the Galaxy "Micro" Mecha-Bowser enemy. As noted, the internal object name for the Galaxy enemy is MechanicKoopaMini, with "mechanic[al]" being short for mecha/meka (note that their factory planet is MiniMechaKoopaPlanet); while the giant "Mecha-Bowser" isn't given such name in the Prima guide or Encyclopedia, the latter reuses part of the description from the Sunshine Mecha-Bowser, and the "planet" is a series of objects called MechaKoopaPartsBody[etc]. To recap: the final name for tinkoopa from Sunshine was coincidentally(?) given the same name as recurring Mechakoopas, localized as Mecha-Bowser. At some point, these Mechakoopas were renamed in Japanese. The Galaxy developers then used the then-recent name when making their version of the Mechakoopa enemy. Prima partially caught this at first and referred to them as simply "Mecha-Bowsers" instead of "Mini Mechakoopas", as they are not intended to be miniature versions of Mechakoopas or either form of Mecha-Bowser, but rather were named as such in response to the giant Mecha-Bowser taking their name and are thus "mini" versions of Bowser himself. Essentially, both Micro Mecha-Bowser and "Heavy Metal" Mecha-Bowser are derived to some degree from Mechakoopa and Mecha-Bowser, respectively, reimagined ala the Galaxy version of Spiny Cheep Cheep and Urchin. == The Mecha-Bowser in Super Mario-kun ==
:Super Mario-kun Volume 9 also uses メカクッパ to refer to Bowser's robotic armor in Yoshi's Safari. Maybe we should include that here as well...? (Along with the thing in the below section?) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:18, April 5, 2022 (EDT)

:Here's all four giant メカクッパ/Mecha-Bowsers discovered so far. I'm not counting Mecha Bowser because that's merely a PRIMA misname as far as I can tell since most other evidence just calls it a Bowser statue, but I digress. We need to decide if it's better to merge or split these. Given the amount, I feel it's like Super Bowser at this point and can just be treated as a recurring idea. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:19, April 5, 2022 (EDT)
::My stance is unchanged. These Mekakuppa are far too different from one another for me to consider merging them based purely on name recycling. One's an enemy inspired by wind-up mice, one's a giant robot Bowser that breathes fire and shoots Bullet Bills, one's armor for the living, breathing Bowser, and one's a planet-sized (by SMG standards anyway) generic blue toy robot. The Super Mario-kun one has the most in common with the Sunshine one, but even it has several differences (like "metal nasal mucus", for instance, or being capable of sneezing, while the Sunshine robot has no such lifelike qualities), so I'd keep it split for consistency. 13:32, April 5, 2022 (EDT)
:::Problem is we now know the SMG "Micro Mecha-Bowser" is supposed to be Mechakoopa after all, since MP7 has "Mini Mechakoopa" as their Japanese name, basing it most likely relative to the Sunshine robot. Following that, it really only makes sense for the Mecha Koopa (ie Mecha-Bowser) in SMG to be a callback to the same giant mech. Also, the Safari boss has some oddly mechanical qualities for simple armor, like a torso cannon. It seems more like a "battlesuit"-type mech in that regard. ::::I do want to add that Super Mario Pia agrees with the "concept" approach (though I'd still list the Sunshine one as a notable member). LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:30, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
:::::Gonna need more context than that, since I'm completely clueless about that source. 13:19, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
::::::Sure. According to Mister Wu's transcription, under「メカクッパ」(Mechakoopa), it states:「巨大なロボやゼンマイじかけの小型のロボなど、登場作によって性能や外見が異なる。」(From gigantic robots to wind-up miniature robots among others, the performance and semblance varies depending on the work in which it appears.), then it lists "SMW,SMS,SMG,NSMW,SMG2,NSMU" as examples of said works. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:39, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
:::::::Waitwaitwait, it lists the wind up semi common enemies and the big robots in SMS and SMG as the same concept...? That's just confusing. Somethingone (talk) 13:48, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
::::::::Not sure if this is what you're suggesting, but merging Mecha Bowsers with Mechakoopas is one thing I'm definitely not agreeing on. 14:03, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
:::::::::Just an observation that the "concept" approach isn't an unprecedented one. As I said, I'm fine enough with keeping Mecha-Bowser as a notable member of the Mechakoopa "species" as it were. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:09, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
::::::::::The discussion is about the giant mechs, though, not the small windup walkers. Considering the "Mini Mecha Koopa" alternate name for the enemy, it's clear they (sometimes) want that differentiated at least (though I want to add it's not that much different from the inconsistent sizing of Wiggler and Chain Chomp). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:35, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
:::::::::::The mere fact that it lumps the wind-up enemies with the giant mechs is enough for to me to dismiss it as meaningless. I remain firmly in favor of merging nothing. 15:05, April 10, 2022 (EDT)
::::::::::::On the contrary, I think it shows that mechanical Bowsers can at least be grouped together as their own "family" not unlike Koopa Troopas, Goombas, etc. They already take a sizable chunk out of the "Miscellaneous Koopas" template, and the fact that regular Mechakoopas got renamed because of the giant Mecha-Bowser also indicates a distinct connection (though the confusion could've been mitigated if it had just been called "Boss Mechakoopa" like, say, the game's Wiggler, but hindsight is 20/20). == The Mecha-Bowser in Super Mario-kun ==
No, I'm not talking of the Super Mario Sunshine arc Mecha-Bowser. In Volume 2 and 4 (SMW arc) a giant robotic Bowser appears and it is called "メカクッパ" (Mecha-Koopa, the same as this Mecha-Bowser). Do we give him a section in here or a separate one?

:Is it an interpretation of Mechakoopa, perhaps? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:36, December 17, 2021 (EST)
::Definitely not: it's a robotic Bowser, and the MechaKoopas are TOO much different to be minimally considered related.
:::I'd say separate page. It predates Sunshine Mecha-Bowser by a decade and doesn't resemble it, so I doubt they were referencing this thing when designing Sunshine Mecha-Bowser. Being part of a Super Mario World-based arc would seemingly tie it to Mechakoopas since that's their debut game, but it looks nothing at all like a Mechakoopa. 19:25, December 17, 2021 (EST)
::::Page it is then.
