| Before the events of the game, Spangle was a famous starfish guitar player that came to [[Gwarhar Lagoon]] a year ago, though prior to [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] finding him, he had not seen anyone ever since. He asks the brothers if there was a place he could stand on that would suit him, like a festive tree. Mario and Luigi know of such a place, and Spangle is placed in their [[suitcase]] until they find it.
