The Mario vs. Luigi Tour was the seventy-eighth tour of Mario Kart Tour, which began on September 7, 2022 and ended on September 20, 2022. This tour pitted Team Mario and Team Luigi against each other for the second time, making this the first instance of two teams from a previous Team Rally going against each other for the second time, and the first overall to feature a competition that includes the losing team of a previous rally, as well as the first instance of two Team Rallies in a row to feature teams from previous tours. This tour introduced a variant of Luigi based on his knight armor from Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which in turn is based on Mario's knight helmet and armor from Super Mario Odyssey. It also introduced Luigi Raceway from Mario Kart 64 and Ghost Valley 2 from Super Mario Kart (which had previously been teased back during the 2020 Halloween Tour forty-nine tours prior) as classic courses, the former of which marks all retro courses from Mario Kart 7 being present in Mario Kart Tour as of this tour, and the latter making this the first tour since the 2021 Holiday Tour twenty tours prior to introduce a new SNES course. This was the first tour since the Hammer Bro Tour sixty-four tours prior to introduce two classic courses simultaneously, and also the second tour in a row to introduce two non-city courses simultaneously.

This tour marked the beginning of a two-tour event to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Mario Kart Tour, which would run until the end of the following tour. This tour featured an upgraded Token Shop which included items like Mario (Classic), Luigi (Classic), the Starchute, the Silver Starchute, and a golden pipe. The Gold Standard, which was originally exclusive to the Coin Rush mode, made its first appearance outside of the aforementioned mode in this tour as an unlockable kart, which could be obtained as a reward for placing high in this tour's ranked cups. Each pipe during the event also had three free pulls instead of two (the last occurrence of this being the Toad vs. Toadette Tour), bringing the total number of free pulls to six. This tour also introduced the first set of two 3rd Anniversary Challenges cards, with the card offering rubies for completing each challenge, and the High-End Toad (Party Time) for completing all the challenges.
