A [[Chain Chomp]], [[Piranha Plant]]s in [[Warp Pipe]]s, giant letters spelling Mario's name, [[mushroom]]-shaped [[hot-air balloon]], bridge near the [[finish line (object)|finish line]], and [[Delfino Oak Tree]]s all appear in the background of the board. The board's squares loosely follows the shape of the road. In Tour mode, the player must get first or second place to clear the board. The competitors are [[Luigi]], [[Birdo]] and [[Toad]].
