They can be defeated by any attack. Madpoles appear in [[Rammerhead Reef]], [[The Bowser Express]], [[Deepwater Dungeon]], [[Sprawling Savanna Rabbit Run]], and [[Pipeline Boom Lagoon]].

The [[Cat Mario|Cat]] and [[Fire Mario|Fire forms]] can be useful against swarms of Madpoles. 

In Pipeline Boom Lagoon, Madpoles replace the [[Goomba]]s in floaties and [[Cheep Cheep]]s of [[Pipeline Lagoon|the original stage]].

The [[Stamp]] found in Deepwater Dungeon depicts a Madpole.
