Luoyang (Traditional Chinese: 洛陽; Simplified Chinese: 洛阳; Pinyin: Luòyáng) is a city in China that served as a historic capital for numerous dynasties, notably the Han dynasty from the years 25 to 190. It was the home of emperor Ho Ti, and for many years, the eunuch Ts'ai Lun served under him. Due to the emperor's contributions, Luoyang became the location of Ts'ai Lun's innovations, including the process of papermaking that resulted in the creation of modern paper. In Mario's Time Machine, however, as Ts'ai Lun neared the completion of his process in 105, Bowser travels back in time to Luoyang and steals a Bamboo that is necessary for the project. Mario, after taking back the Bamboo, travels back in time himself to Luoyang so that he can return it to Ts'ai Lun. Because he does not know that it belongs to Ts'ai Lun, Mario questions various people within Luoyang about the Bamboo, including Ho Ti, an unnamed paper dryer, and a writer. They eventually point him towards Ts'ai Lun, and Mario proceeds to visit him in his chambers, return the Bamboo, and leave the city through time travel. br
