During story mode, all microgames are played at the lowest difficulty level (with the exception of Jimmy T and Jimmy P's stages, and the microgames featuring in Tiny Wario's stage taken from Wario's stage) and the game ends after the player has beaten the boss once. During "high score" runs, the difficulty increases each time the player beats the boss, and the game ends when the player runs out of lives. There is no limit to the number of microgames played during a high score run, but the game will display scores only up to 999. All microgames speed up in alternating sets of 3 and 2 for 25 microgames after the boss is beaten at level 3 except in [[Dribble & Spitz]]'s stage, which speed up every 2 microgames due to their stage having no "Faster!" prompts. Before that point, the speed reverts to the original speed at the "Boss Stage" (except in [[9-Volt]] and [[18-Volt]]'s stage, which has the speed decrease by one semitone at the boss stage).
