The event starts out with a chart of who the player is playing against, as well as another two competing. This chart is shown again after winning the first round (but not if it was lost) except with the winner of the other two in the center. After choosing positions for the characters, the announcer announces the teams. Then the team on the left kickoffs of the first half and the team on the right kickoffs for the second half. Otherwise team who didn't score kickoffs. Kickoffs happen between two characters and is done automatically. The player moves with the Control Pad or Control Stick. The player can pass with {{Button|Wii|2}} or {{Button|Wii|A}} no matter where they are. But, to shoot, the player must press {{Button|Wii|1}} or {{Button|Wii|B}} while on the opponent's side. Otherwise, it acts like a lofted pass, which is usually done by holding down {{Button|Wii|2}} or {{Button|Wii|A}}. If the player has set at least characters to be them, the player can press {{Button|Wii|B}} or {{Button|Wii|Z}} to switch the active character to another closest to the ball, but only when on defense. Also on defense, the player can get the ball by pressing {{Button|Wii|2}} or {{Button|Wii|A}} for an interception or {{Button|Wii|1}} or {{Button|Wii|B}} for a sliding tackle. The player must be careful not to foul by going from behind. But if a character fouls the other team, the other team kicks the ball to another from the last position of the ball. If it is done near the other teams' goal, the goalie shots instead. But if the foul happens near their goal, it becomes a penalty kick between the other team and the goalie. After a while, a character will glow. This allows them to do Special Shots, Special Dribbles, and Power Tackles, which boosts shots, dribbles, and sliding tackles respectively. To perform Special Dribbles, the player press {{Button|Wii|A}} or {{Button|Wii|C}}. The other two are done with {{Button|Wii|1}} or {{Button|Wii|B}} like normal. If the ball goes out, the other team gets throws the ball back in. To score, the player must put the ball into the other teams' goal guarded by a goalie. The goalies are either [[Egg Pawn]]s or [[Birdo]]s. Their color represents their team's color. If a goalie catches the ball, they shot it to the other side. Points continue until time is up for both halves. After half time, the players reverse direction. Note that some unknown additional time is added to the clock after each half. However, if both teams have the same number of points after the second half, it goes into overtime. When this happens, tine is reduced to a minute split in half. But, if there is still a tie after this, players take turns kicking like penalty kick into the goal five times, with the winner is the one with the most scores. But, if no one does, it keeps going one at a time until they do. After a match, the announcer announces the winner or how the player did.
